Next Friday is our first Staff V Members event of the season on the Brabazon with the above format... The problem is I'm not sure how the format works  Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I'm partnered with a 17 handicapper and we are against a pro and a 5 handicaper :fore:

I can not wait for it :)

best points per hole for your team vs the same for theirs.

example. 1st hole par 4, SI 5

you mate double bogies for 1 point, you par for 3.

the pro pars for 2 points, his partner pars for 3.

the hole is halved with your 3 and the pros parnter's 3 !

pretty sure that's it.

you just keep making pars and net pars to keep the pressure on him.

a lot of teaching professionals can be rusty on the course as a lot don't have the time to play as much as they did. they still have it in the tank though ;)

Stableford match play? How is that any different from match play match play? Highest points=lowest score to par!

It's different because in normal match play you get your strokes off the lowest handicapper. In this you both get your strokes.

So... 5 handicap plays 8 handicap.
Normal matchplay on the SI 1 both shoot a gross 4. The 8 handicapper wins with a net 3. In stableford matchplay both get 3 points and the hole is halved.
On the SI 6 both shoot a 4, the hole is halved in normal matchplay. In stableford matchplay the 5 hcap scores 2 and the 8 hcap scores 3 and wins the hole.

I too am in this comp. There are 6 groups/matches out there, you record the best stableford score between you and your partner. After 18 holes the team with the most points wins the match. So, for example would put the members 1-0 until the other 5 groups come in. it does not run hole by hole

1. handicapping will be different - effectively strokes are given at the middle/higher SI holes. How many will depend on allowances.
2. you don't win a hole with a blob (really shouldn't be any practical difference in this over matchplay - more theoretical!)

Having now seen Hovis's post it doesn't appear to be stableford matchplay at all though!!!

Not sure why it's called 2-ball as it would be commonly known as "4-ball betterball stableford matchplay". So as in 4BBB matchplay, there are two players on each team and each player plays his own ball (hence the 4-ball bit :D). The difference here would be that instead of Nett scores, you play for points and the player with the best individual points score on each hole wins the hole for his\her team.

So...

4-ball: Four players, four balls
Betterball: The best score in each team counts
Stableford: Holes are decided on stableford points
Matchplay: It's matchplay

Simples :D

now read post #9!

it would appear to be a match (between 2 teams), where each game is decided by the 18 hole BB stableford score of each opposing pair.

no doubt an appropriate title can be established :(

Awww, I hate in when people post after I've read all the posts!!!

So not matchplay at all then. In our society we simply call this format "Betterball Stableford"

But your score only counts against the other 2 ball in your team. If you end up scoring more points than your two opponents then you get 1 point for your team. So with 6 groups im predictin 5-1 ( daveboys team will loose)

I only said what we call it in our society, it wasn't gospel :D
