What a great few days we had in St Andrews and cannot recommend it highly enough. The whole experience was perfect and it felt that everywhere we went staff were helpful, friendly and keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

The weather was amazing with clear blue skies but very cold. In fact The Old Course was closed due to a heavy frost and for a couple of hours we feared we wouldn't get to play it but all was well in the end and we paired up with a couple of real gents and had a blast. We all had caddies and the banter was great. At the 18th we all had the widest smiles on our faces and it is a very special place for sure - so much history that it's impossible to have an objective view of the course itself. Played well most of the time and 4 over handicap for The Old and 2 over for The New. Hit a few too many bunkers on The Jubilee to finish 7 over but really enjoyed all 3 courses. Links golf has many excellent advantages, not least spotless shoes and trousers after a round, but it wouldn't be for me every day as I kind of like trees!

A fab golfing break though - best yet!

Oh - also didn't lose a single ball

Pleased to hear you had such a good time Amanda. I can't wait to go back in October. The Old Course is superb, but the New is not far behind. Looking forward to playing the Jubilee which I understand is the hardest of the three.

Did you try the Vine Leaf ?

Hmm tough call, many rate the New as the best course, a lot also plump for the Jubilee (which I've not played yet) Personally I like the New, very little let up on it with no easy holes.

Glad you had a good time. I played all three as a teenager but remember very little about it, unfortunately. I got told off on the Old by the starter and got one of my first ever birdies on the jubilee (a tap in too, approach hit the pin).

I'll need to get back there sometime but am doing well with turnberry, muirfield and (hopefully) Carnoustie this year...

Hope you're putting some photos up? :)

Yep took photos so will sort them and upload. Didn't get to The Vine Leaf so that and The Castle Course are reason enough to go back :)

The guys we played with on The Old played The New the day before and found it a lot tougher as wayward meant in trouble rather than another fairway. They played off 20 and Mark (or was it Stuart??!!) birdied the SI1 having never been on the actual hole until his ball was on the green and he nailed a 50 footer! I'd say The Jubilee was tighter off the tee as found more trouble and yet wouldn't have said my driving was any less accurate than previous days.

FD - there's another 3 you mention that are on my list - so much golf and so little time (never mind the green fees)!

I am playing the Castle this time. Had a look when we were up before and not sure what to make of it.

I loved the New Course, but shooting 5 over gross may have influenced me.;)

We had lunch there on a stunning day with clear blue skies and it did look nice. The guys we had played with were there and said it was tough.

Im just back and enjoyed it every bit as much as you by the sound of it!

Payed Eden yesterday, was wet, cold and blustery but really enjoyed the course.

Today was the old course, started well with a birdie on the first! Ended up with 40 points and a gross 86 (nett 68)! Couldnt be happier!

As you said, the whole experience is amazing, the staff are great and the course was playing well!

Might try to get back again later on in the year!
