Hi all,

I'm in a bit of a panic:confused:

I'm organising for me and a mate to go and play St Andrews in October. Drive up on Friday evening and play the old course on Saturday morning, another course on Saturday afternoon and the Castle course on Sunday morning before driving back.

However all the B&Bs seem to be filled up and I have to enter the ballot for the Old course:rolleyes:

Has anyone done the ballot?
Did you get on?
Reassurance needed please

Thanks
Dan

the ballot takes place 2 days before however there are comps on sat 19th and 26th by the look of things on the website.
half the times are available in this ballot 2 days before.
maybe stay a little out of town or is it half term week which will mean things are busy everywhere.
Good luck.

Scottish half term is a week earlier than English half term.
That's why we can all get good deals in England [Certre Parcs etc] the earlier week!
Two bites of the cherry for the Scottish hotels and b&b's as well.

OP, Dundee is only a few miles away or somewhere like Coupar may suit.

You just have to be different up there don't you!

Its not unusual for half term to vary between counties in England.

I am guessing so far......Zero (time to flap lol)

Try the Old Manor hotel in Lundin, views out over Lundin Links and the Firth of Forth across to Gullane and North Berwick, only 20 mins to St Andrews. If you miss out on the ballot then buy a 2 day pass which lets you play as much golf as you like on any of the other links trust courses.

I would suggest a few things.

Firstly if there is only 2 of you more than likely you will be be paired with another pair to play the old course and due to it being October be playing off fairway mats.

If you are set on playing St andrews courses I would advise the New Course, Castle course or the Jubilee.

there is 2 courses at st andrews bay at the Fairmount resort, these are stunning.

Or as said before me get down to Gullane, Whitekirk, north berwick or even across to Troon

No mats in October in St Andrews

As well as two great courses at the Fairmont they have a 3 nights for price of two that week, including breakfast.

Lovely hotel with nice staff and super comfy beds!

Even on the old course?

Mats are in use from Nov to the end of March on the Old Course. You can, however move your ball to the first cut of rough and play from there without mats. At this time of the year the first cut is so slight that there is hardly any difference.
