Hi all,
A friend will be celebrating his 50th next year and has booked us a few days away in July.

Any advice on where to play and what we need to know about the area? Really looking forward to getting our fourball on some good courses.

Thanks in advance.

Well....where to start? An absolute plethora of great courses within easy driving distance but if you want to stay in the town, why not look at the 3 day ticket that covers all the courses apart from the Old? The New and Jubilee are both great and I always enjoy playing the Eden too.

If you want to travel out of town and have a bit of cash to spend then you can look at Kingsbarns and/or Carnoustie. Another great course a bit further up the coast that is often overlooked is Montrose. Or head inland as there are some top quality heathland tracks nearby as well.

You'll probably not get on the old course but plenty to choose in and within a few miles of St Andrews itself therefore driving will be at a minimum

New Course
Jubilee
Castle
Fairmont Kittocks
Fairmont Torrance
Dukes

These are all in St Andrews and immediate outskirts

A few miles further out

Kingsbarns
Scotscraig
Crail
Leven Links
Lundin Links
Elie

And many many others depending on how far you wish to travel.

If the Old Course is what you're after then you can still apply through the 48 hour ballot or queue up at stupid o'clock.

Me and the bro in law are up there for a week in July (from the 23rd) - got New and Jubilee booked and paid for already on the Wed and Thurs. We will be going into the ballot as well to try to get a knock on the old lady. Also thinking about a round at Elie, heard some very good reports about it.

Val's your man for St Andrews though.

TBH you would have to pay me to play any of the Fairmont courses;)

Fairmont courses have always been in excellent condition with fast true greens any time I've played. Always enjoyed my days on them.

Ladybank is a great course. Not the friendliest place I've visited but well worth a visit.

Staying in Elie with friends and family for Hogmanay. Booked on Elie for New Years Day. Looking forward to it and will feedback.

It's quite quirky in places but it's a decent enough test, it's not everyone's cup of tea though so just go with an open mind and embrace it. I always enjoy it.

Should add, it's always windy.

An 1130am tee off on NewYears Day...if I can swing the club I'll be chuffed. I'm hoping the wind will blow the hangover away.

We found that, apart from in the Pro shop. The locals didn't like the look of us, but I supose that is fair enough.

I would definitely recommend the New followed by the Jubilee. The Castle has stunning views, great holes, but quirky greens.:mmm: If you fancy a drive, head up to Blairgowrie. Well worth it.

I'd go for the 3 day St Andrews pass. The courses are all super and it's good not having to travel if you stay somewhere in St. Andrews

I played the old course in October, absolutely fantastic course and experience.

Lovely welcome on the first tee and walking over the Swilken bridge and up to the 18th green was memorable also.

It was in flawless condition. Amazing given the number of people who play it.

Also played the new course which was excellent.
