2nd Stage of arguably the highest pressure Golf in Europe is under way, with Round 3 completed.

A couple of guys I know are performing well (1 particularly so) and some 'names' not doing as well as might be expected.

And if this week is not enough pressure, the leaders will, next weekend, be fighting over 6 rounds for 25 places on the European Tour! I heard of someone who 'bottled' an 18" putt that would have got him his card, so definitely pressure there!

Yes....been following Tom Murray from our club. Currently t-9th with 1 round to go. Is it the top 20 from each venue that get through to the final stages??

Couldn't find that info. One of the guys is 21st at the same venue - 3 shots back! Has wobbled on the 3rd day before - a habit he needs to lose! Lloyd Saltman a further shot back. Riccardo G is leading by 3 at Lumine!

I looked yesterday to see how a former club member was doing and couldn't find him, then I found that he had got the 15th and final automatic card by his finish on the Challenge Tour

From (dodgy) memory, there was a time when some of those guys went into Q-School - as qualifiers from that were ahead of (some) of the automatic ones from Challenge Tour. Those guys could play with a little more freedom, knowing that they had some ET spots allocated. I believe it has got a bit more rigid since then though. Still tough to get spots and then play well enough to go up on the re-rank!

Top 17 from each venue.

Currently sweating on Charlie Ford, one of ours who is tied 23rd with a round to go. If he could get through all stages he would join Jason Palmer (the "one armed bandit") another Kirby member who finished 8th on the Challenge Tour to earn his card on the European Tour.

On top of this there is a third member, Greg Eason, who finished 5th on the PGA Tour of Canada and thus qualified for the Web.com Tour.

Quite a crop and all our members are understandably very proud of all three.

Annoyingly I watched the sky coverage and he wasn't featured hardly at all!

Last round of Final Qualifying tomorrow! Definitely some sleep going to be lost tonight!

Top 25 and ties qualify

Matt Fitzgerald currently in with 1 shot in hand. :ooo:

My 'mate' Ricardo 1 shot outside.

Tom Murray looks reasonably safe. :whistle

Another mate blew it on the first day - 4 under for 3 rounds; 12 first round!

John Hann followed up yesterday's 58 with a 78 today! :mmm:

Who knows what's going to happen!

I have issues 'quoting' other people post on my outdated browser, but just to confirm, Challenge Tour Qualifiers have a higher standing than tour school qualifiers.

rightly so in my view. Top 15 on challenge tour shows a season of consistency. Rather than potentially only 6 good rounds (i know many go through 14).

I believe (pretty sure) that only applies for a short time. After a certain number of tournaments - enough for both sets to get 'sufficient' starts, there's a re-rank of the 'newly qualified' that ignores how they qualified. There has actually been more than 1 re-rank in some years too. Makes sense too, otherwise those who have dropped ET into having to qualify, and do, would 'always' be ranked below the top 15 from Challenge Tour.

I think the top <however many> from that process go (went in 2014) into Category 12 - below Money List Winners, but above Top 15 from Challenge Tour.

Daan Huizig (sp) also missed the cut- remember him taking the field apart at the Lytham Trophy in 2012- think that means he will lose his Mizuno contract now but I'm not sure how that works, shame.
