Managed to hurl myself down some steps while on holiday a couple of weeks ago (stone cold sober as well!) and completely knackered my ankle in the process. Finally gave in to the Mrs nagging and went to the walk in centre yesterday. Doc didn't bother x-raying as he's pretty sure its just a bad sprain, but he did say no sport for 'a few weeks':( Anyone done the same? How long until you were back swinging clubs again?

Sprained ankles can be a few days to a month or so depending on the severity in my experience. If its the first time on the ankle then should hopefully heal quite quickly.

Assume hes told you to ice it regularly, ideally use a compression bandage on it too and if theres much swelling/pain take some ibuprofen

I haven't done any ankle damage, but currently our with a severed extensor tendon in my left index finger. Had surgery 4 weeks ago today and due to have the splint of next Thursday.

Was playing some cracking golf leading up to the injury as well, getting into the League to Dubai regional finals. That is on the 23rd Sept, so only got a 50:50 chance of making. Even if I dont I wont have played for 7 weeks.

Bad luck fella....still painful after a couple of weeks doesn't sound good, sounds like you need some rest.

I managed to crash my (pedal) bike in London this morning.....bent my frame, cut and swollen knee, cut thigh and got a lump on it, bruised hip, cut my elbow, torn coat..... luckily I didn't get squashed by a bus as I lay face down in the gutter.

Have done my ankle a few times running or playing football and nowadays it's pretty well knackered and easily re-injured.

I've had to quit football as it's just not worth it any more but I don't think it ever kept me away from golf for more than a couple of weeks. I've always found the walking during a round rather than swinging a club to be the problem part.

Been given the usual advice about painkillers, elevation etc. Rest is a bit difficult as I drive for a living. I'm gutted to be honest, didn't play much golf earlier in the season due to family stuff and work, but was looking forward to a few solid weeks now before winter sets in, but looks like my season is over already:angry:

"Sprained" my ankle about 10 years ago. Within about 5 mins of going over on it, I had a tennis ball size swelling on my ankle. Couldn't walk without crutches for 3 months. Did ligament damage without knowing. Aches like a good'un when cold. Forever going over on it as it's weaker.
Give it as much rest as you can o.r you may pay the price.

You're alright then, he didn't say anything about golf.....

My lady thought she'd sprained her ankles - couple of days later she couldn't move. We got her X-rayed - Left ankle broken, right foot metatarsal broken !!! Result steel pins in ankle; plaster on both feet and horizontal for 6 weeks.

OP should get an X-ray to ensure there's no fractures otherwise there could be issue further down the road !!

That would be my advice too. Better safe than sorry especially if there is no sign of improvement
