Hi folks,

I am looking at getting a sports watch, garmin vivoactive is the main one I have found, i want to use it for golf, but also running, and day to day use, looking feedback on the garmin, or other suggestions to look at.

thanks

I have the vivoactive and wear it for everyday use. I only really use the golf app as I use a Garmin edge for cycling and don't really run or swim. It's quite basic - distances to front, middle & back of green, and 100, 150 & 200 yd layup/dogleg distances. No hazards or other info, but that's all I really wanted.

I have the Vivoactive HR, great sports watch links to strava for cycling and the golf app is pretty decent and the garmin connect phone app and site are excellent.

I've got the Vivoactive HR and wear it all the time now. Great bit of kit.

I mainly use it for training. Running, cycling etc. I have it paired to a footpod for indoor treadmill work, GPS handles outside stuff well. I think you can also get cadence sensors for the bike. It pretty much does everything in one package.

I tried using it for golf once but it seemed quite basic and not really a replacement for my SkyCaddie. So haven't used it for that since.

thanks folks, I have a bushnell laser, so only really after front, middle and back on the course, I use mapmyrun currently off my phone, but like the idea of have the watch on all day for other things also as well as golf.
any other watches worth looking at or are the garmins the best about for this purpose? thanks

When I was looking I think the only other device that covered this amount of activities was the Apple iWatch, with extra apps.

There might be some android wear devices available now that might fit the bill.

Only android wear that work are the Sony one and the huawi one as they have built in GPS, the others don't. Been looking for similar but nothing ticks all the boxes. Next gen of android wear might. Sticking with a separate GPS and fitbit surge for the time being. Apple watch has GPS but not sure on quality of golf aps

Ive had a garmin vivoactive since just after they were released (maybe 18 months) and have found it superb for everything I've needed.

Cycling it works well when synced with compatible sensors and will also record where you've been and plot a nice map.

I use it for golf and have found it to be a good guide, not as detailed as some of the dedicated devices but very simple to use and the info is presented straight forwardly so only a quick glance is needed.

Battery life is pretty good too, I wear it permanently and get about a week from a charge including at least one round of golf. The sleep and step monitoring i have found to be pretty accurate for me too.

piggy backing a little bit on this, but is there a watch out there that will do shot tracking for me? something along the lines of what you get with game golf? that's what I am really after!

Cheers

Just had a mail from Apple about the Apple 2 watch and am interested as I see it now has built in GPS (unlike earlier models). Assume that makes it more viable for golf......anyone had any experience?

I use a Tom Tom Golfer at the moment....quite happy with that but am tempted by Apple for the non golf applications.

I think the Garmin S20 does this but I think the reliability is still not there according to reviews. I had a Microsoft Band but sent it back the other week as it was also a bit flaky.

The Apple Watch 2 is great for my uses so far but not been on course yet! My main concern is the battery, not sure how it will get on with it on course as it needs charged every night after normal use, well, that and about an hours running with gps running app.

I have a vivoactive also, had it for a year or so now

Primary use is golf for distances lay ups and recording scores, also use it for hiking, cycling and skiing - would recommend as an allround pice of kit as others have noted
