AS you know I'm a junior, I've contacted some of the big companies in golf but had no replies.

Do you guys have any other ideas for funding ect?

thanks :)

Hi fella, what's your handicap? You'll struggle I would imagine unless your low. So it's just Saturday job mum dad and a friendly uncle!

Hi, I'm actually of of 19 at the moment. I really made not much progress this season, until the last few Junior medals getting cut by 8. I'm only 13, and I really struggle to get off the tee and I struggle to hit the ball that far. I make up for that in my short game though. As said, I didn't start playing well until the end of the season, so I'm going to work on my new swing ( eliminating my slice) I'm also going to keep working on my short game and keep working hard in the gym.

I'm wanting to get out the blocks quickly next season, (I've hit 6 under my handicap the last 3 times I've played and that was in bad weather) so I feel I can get cut to around 11 , then down to 7 by the end of next season.

Thanks

What are you looking for sponsorship for Matty ?

What you got to offer your sponsors , they generaly look for some kind of return for their money ?

unfortunatley mate i cant see it happening .. i hope it does but im just been honest

Yeah, just a bit of funding/golf equipment - the only thing I could deliver back would be telling friends how good my clubs were and where the buy them (which would be the Sponser)!

Yeah, i think it might be a bit more realistic in a few years!

Unfortunately I think you'll struggle for cash sponsorship.
maybe your pro will give you few freebie tips in return for a bit of tidying around the shop?
I guess every junior in the country is in the same boat so it'll be down to family I think. Hope you prove me wrong keep
Trying but don't pin your hopes on it too much.

Sorry for the negative response mate , just trying to be realistic , the problem is there are so many child prodigys out there that sponsorship as we know it is very thin on the ground , there has to be some advertising or payback for the sponsor ..

Sorry but there are plenty of players your age much lower in county squads and they aren't getting too much in the way of sponsorship. You simply have nothing to offer in return for the money. If you want cash and the opportunity to test new gear, look for a Saturday job at a range, pro shop or high street retailer. That I'm afraid is as close as you'll get unless something radical happens quickly.

I think you should be enjoying the game and enjoying the challenge of improving and don't worry about sponsorship. You don't need sponsorship just yet, practice hard and watch as many pros as you can, that is worth more than money at this time.

I am a Pro trying to make the European Tour and I am finding it very difficult to attract sponsorship. I have played events all over the world and won many Pro ams and events. This shows how hard sponsorship is to come by.

It won't be what you want to hear, but I hope this helps you.

Unfortunately have to echo this. There's a lad at our place who's either 13 or 14 and plays off 3. He's currently in the county (maybe even england?) set ups but as far as I'm aware hasn't got any major deals in place. There's another junior who's off +2 currently looking at colleges in the States (again having played county and country). As far as I'm aware he does get a couple of things free (gloves / balls) but I think I'm right in saying he still buys all of his own clubs - despite getting them fit down at the Taylormade place at Wentworth.

I tried this myself when I was about 16-17 playing off 6 or 7 and did actually get a few responses (I believe from Benross and Golf Pride) but they said then that they didn't really do sponsorship outside of very elite players.

Best advice I can offer, enjoy your golf, if you want to try and make a living out of it work on getting as low as you can - then revist this topic in a few years time.

Best of luck

Jason - I once read about a professional who sold 'shares' in himself to his friends and family.
A share cost £500
Everytime he won money he would give 60% of it to his shareholders and keep 40% to help support him and his family.
As soon as he had returned their full investment he would give 40% of his winning and keep 60% to support his family.
I remember him saying that he had always managed to return more than they invested but his friends and family weren't making a killing from it (not that they wanted to, they just wanted to help him make it on the pro scene).
Maybe this is something you could look at now or when you make it on the European Tour - best of luck buddy!

Pretty much sums it up for me. I'm sorry Matty, but you have no chance. There are kids all over the country younger and better than you who get nothing that their parents don't give them.
