Does anyone know what the best wedges are for spin. I'm looking for some I can throw at the pin and get them to stop. I'm aware most of it is down to skill but some wedges must be better than others!

Anything with pre-rulechange grooves.
Mizzy MPT-10
Vokey Spin-Milled - not C-C
Cleveland CG15
Callaway Jaws

They all spin like mad. New groove wedges don't spin as much but you can still get plenty if you hit it well.

MD Norman Drew wedges, insane amounts of backing up when you want to and hit them clean.

Agreed, were the best I used but would have needed a roll of lead tape for each one :(

Really? I find them heavy enough but not overly so. Maybe you are just used to heavier clubs Chris? I suppose its like most things, its what you are accustomed to. I couldnt go back to Callaway blocks since using mizuno and not titleist AP2s.

Yeah, I had a couple out on "loan" for a couple of weeks and just found them too light. If I remember correctly though they had a couple of different types ( :D ) and found them too light coming from the heavy cast vokey's.

The 50 deg gap wedge (NV Drew low bounce, pic below) I use is a monster, it really encourages you to aim for the back of the green as it will either stop dead or back up depending how hard you hit it. 125 yards os pretty much its limit as it just climbs and climbs after that and still goes no further. the 58 players wedge doesnt backup so much but is handy for getting over bunkers etc and stopping them relatively quickly where you might expect it to scuttle on across the green towards the fringe.

Dammit, now you have me wondering! Will need to get a hold of one or two now  :p

The low bounce is perfect of picking the ball out clean on mid range bunkershots too (say 50-100 yards, Alex Narey saw me use it at Castle Stuarts 13th for a 110 yard sand save birdie :D )

Another vote for the MD's. The 2011 range is very nice although the older range will produce a bit more bite and cost you less. Keep an eye on the European Tour, I think MD have plans to get some pro's using their gear soon. Hopefully prices won't climb to reflect it.

Am I wrong, or didn't an MD wedge achieve some kind of record for RPM/spin in a test a year or two back?

I think you are correct Dave, it was certainly up there at the top of the table.
One of the best short game brands out there, if people can't see through the relatively little known companys branding, their loss.

Get the black ones - they look mega and work a treat (standard bound as I'm playing parkland). Especially if you match them up with their putters. My little Donegal putter likes to finish the short game job that the wedge have started

Drop an email to Peter at ebay@dunlucegolf.com and he will gladly sort you out - tell him Paul sent you.
