Spider ghost - putter dilema - help please.

Having won some vouchers last year I find them burning a hole in my pocket. I have a perfectly good putter but sometime wonder if I could putt better. Today I borrowed a spider ghost from the proshop and found I scared the hole or holed many more 10 -20 ft putts. Distance control not brilliant on long (40ft plus) putts though and it makes a stupid sound. Still seemed to go well - just need ear muffs.
In short do you think it's worth a punt and use it as a backup unless it gets really good! Anyone used one for a while and still bagging one? Do you get over the noise it makes???

Bought it on day one and still playing it. Distance not an issue as i changed the weights to get a better feel, the sound is different to the last spider i had but nothing remarkable, so not really sure why you mention it. Maybe related to the balls being used ?

Thanks bt, I use a milled putter at the mo (#9 style) so the noise is a new one on me! I didn't like the putter at first but it began to grow on me, was mostly wondering if this was a fleeting feeling, with you still using it it must have something about it!
Results good but not quite to my taste (yet), is this a relationship that could work or a short fling ending in the ads?

Well for me I like the roll it puts on the ball (seems to roll quickly off the face), love the stability I have on the backstroke (doesn't waver offline like more anser style I have).

If you can overcome the "looks" then it'll be a good move. Personally I love the look and it works at getting the ball in the hole I can't see why I would change it. Strangely enough murph having had 3 Scotties in my time I still can't work out why people use them, as they really do nothing different to any other putter I've ever had (except costing 3 times as much).

Totally agree with you there.
Also, the short putts are much less challenging with a driver-size head over powering the size of the hole !

My red x was free. Doesn't get cheaper than that.

I do have two other scotties in the naughty cupboard though.

I can't see me benching the red x any time soon.

so you are thinking about buying a putter that you cant put with,is not a good as the one you have and you hope you will get used to it,sounds like a recipe for flebay to me why not try other putters out or just stick with the one you have or is it a vanity thing,resist resist you will know the minute you hold a putter if it is right for you and you should not have to get used to it .

Papyt, inside 40ft it was probably better outside worse. Not vanity, other putter is custom milled one (see avatar). As my first post says, putted better but not so sure bout style of spider.

I had an itsy spider when they first came out and I regret letting it go now. Very stable and I didn't have any issues with noise or distance control. As Mr Inland Revenue kindly gave me some money back (2005/06 tax year - pull your finge out guys) I might have to have another think. The Odyssey # 9 is going well at the moment but struggles on really wet greens. The Anser is on the transfer list and keeping the subs bench warm for the foreseeable (bad times) so I could do with something with a bit of oomph for wet greens
