Cold hands, warm hearts at Spey Valley today and a 7-2 victory for the forum boys. Rained all day but it's still a classic course. Off to pub for beers now!

Great company again and more to come.

Cheers

John

weather looks grim but the course looks beautiful; what's with the down with the doods baseball cap look? Hope you're heads aren't too sore.

Excuse me. My fabulous birdie 3 on the last where I finely executed a 3 wood to 6 feet and tram lined the putt was worthy of the 2up scoreline that we won by!

Insulted now!

Who ever lost to Smiffy should hang their head in shame.

Penalty should be buying beers all round.

Ray probably did all the scoring. Smiffy doesn't like it when it's raining or too cold........ or too windy, or too hot, or too hilly, or....

Some good stories from yesterday. Think everyone was a bit battle weary (freezing) by the time I was asking for the scores so some even forgot to count properly!

Thecraw is far too modest to say he was 4 down after 6 but still gained the win on the last. But his opponents said they've never laughed so much on the golf course in their lives so I think that summed up the spirit of the day.

Glad to be carrying my bag today after buggies yesterday (they ruin the concentration)....but as I type it's pouring down again. Meant to get better later so here's hoping it does for everyone's sake.

Looking good for today lads, it's 12 deg and the sun is almost out in Inverness.
Just had a walk along for breakfast and it's tee shirt weather thank god. :D

Lets not forget my on 3rd shot to 8 feet on 17 to get us back to all square.

Patrick my dear boy, I know we were all suffering the effects of mild hypothermia at that stage, however u won 17 with a birdie to put us 1up, my par 3 at 16 put us level.

Have your fingers recovered from that knife on 18???

Ps John, we were 4 down through 5 playing against Clarkie, aka Ben Crenshaw

an enjoyable but very wet and cold day with a course I could have nightmares about. Great to meet some of the lads and have to say Gerry is the best 18 handicapper I've met. cheers to algar for dragging me round, eating my toffees and driving the buggy like a rally car :D
Steve was a picture of misery in the buggy too but at least his feet kept dry with his new pimp shoes which match his bag and cheers to Craw for swapping towels. good fun except for getting flashed by a camera(wait and see if any points arrive).
ps - just bought a different driver

Ditto that Alec believe it or not i did enjoy even tho i didn't look, with shoes and bag like that i should be cruising the fairways of Marbella not the frozen tundra that was Spey Valley :D :D :D.

Big thanks to Phil my partner who played solid golf while i chopped it all over the place (honest Phil i'm not that bad)and to J_F great choice of course mate, next time book the weather 3 times i've been on an outing with you and its pissed down everytime. And to Alec for being my taxi cheers big man and get that Yonex back to American Golf pronto.

Enjot the rest of your weekend guys and roll on the next meet.

Yes,but only just. Did you find somewhere to dry your gear out?
PS
i got a 3 on 16 too, so we must have been two up then. Still can't believe we won that after the first few holes S :D

In between the rain and the heavy rain I got a wee bit video and some photos.

Grumpyjock (Chris Chapple) didn't live up to his name at all. Both he and Viscount17 (Steve Clifford) were relentlessly good company, as was my mate, Colin (Sid) Devine, in spite of the weather.

I was kind of concerned to hear the patter of rain on the caravan roof on Saturday morning after Sid threatened to come after me with a hammer if it rained again for Castle Stuart. He was frozen to the core but cheery all the way round.

Here's the video;-

it was nice and cold but the banter kept us warm, well played john that run realy did beat us.
Thanks for the game Stuart and of course steve as well.
that is some mini climate there, in a bowl with low flying clouds all around. You could not see any of the mountain tops at all.

Hope that yesterday at Boat of Garten was a success, Smiffy.
John

Not too bad at all John although the course had really suffered through the bad weather, especially the greens. Definitely the worst of the four courses we played.
Very tough track, although looking fairly short on the card at just over 5600 yards it seemed to play a lot longer due to the lie of the land. Lots of humps and hollows to carry, and elevated greens. Hardly a flat lie around the course which led to some very inconsistent ball striking, at least from me.... :o :o
Patrick played very well and absolutely canes the ball off the tee. I think (think) he came in with 35 points and won the money with Ray (who played fairly consistently all week-end) taking 2nd place and Iain (despite his hangover) picking up a tenner for 3rd.
As I say, a very nice course with some fantastic scenery. I'd like to go back and play it again, but later in the year when the greens would obviously be better.
Made to feel very welcome by the pro and the bar staff, had a reasonable meal afterwards for not much money, and would recommend a visit to anyone.
