Always though that they should close off sections of the rough where spectators can't stand/walk.
Say 250-350 yards left and right of fairway and around greens.

So many times you see a ball pulled 20 yards left to be sitting perfectly on flattened rough.

It's is odd how pros think, not sure who it was but one of the pros drove his ball onto a concrete path. He had the option of a free drop but choose not to as after three or four practice swings decided he did not want to play his next shot with the ball above his feet. I was stood 10 ft away when he proceeded to smash it 190yd onto the edge of the green. He got the customary " good shot yoth" off me.
Dont think it is much of an issue to be honest when it comes to flattened rough.
Now if you are talking about Lee Westwwod, even some of the houses are to close to the course😁
