I am currently looking to add a 50 degree wedge to my bag.

I had decided to go for g20 gap wedge (matches my set) but after shopping around most sales assistants are pushing me down the route of Cleveland 588 or Vokey. I wonder if this is because they have current stock of this club and want to shift rather than ordering my g20 from Ping.
Now I understand in a single figure handicapper would prefer a specialist wedge but what benefits would the average club player notice?

If I put the same strike on both a Vokey 50 and G20 50 would differences would there be on the ball?.

I would just get the Ping G20 GW.
It matches your other 2 so no adjustments to make.
Why introduce another make , it just adds doubt.
Others will tell you to get Vokeys as they're brilliant but it's all personal preference and clever marketing.
Plus, keeping the GW matching the set can only add value if you decide to upgrade at a later date.

I spent ages finding a GW to match my irons (TM CB Forged) in the right shaft. Very glad I did. As it plays the same as all the other irons in the set. (only wish I could find a SW to match too. Guess its part a confidence thing. Also as Bob says, it will increase the resale value of the irons.

Not a lot that could be appreciated :)

I have unmatching wedges and even use the 9 and PW from a totally different set to the irons. If you don't mind the shape/size of the Pings, you should get them. I don't like the PW and SW from my Callaway set, as they are super-chunky and I fear delicate short game shots with them.

I reckon if you have the PW and SW from the G20, there's no question. If your G20s only went to PW, you might like to match up the GW and SW from another maker.

That'll teach you for being keg-handed

i had this problem too and ended up importing one from the states, i would go defo with the gap wedge why add a totally different wedge to your set to keep a salesman happy?
you are happily using a G20 PW and SW so why would a GW (UW) be any different.

Hi there, go with what feels best, I got a 58* Vokey and loved it instantly, its my go-to club around the greens (while its still soggy out there anyway). I needed a gap wedge and 52 degrees fit the bill so I bought a Vokey thinking it would be the same. Never got on with it. Eventually gave up and bought an MD Diamond Milled on ebay, love it. Great club, fraction of the price. It sits between the "heavy" ping wedge and the "light" vokey, so bridges the gap for me. Thats how Id describe it anyway, Im sure theres folks will think vokeys are heavy handed but my G15ss feel much chunkier at address. Not that I'd trade my Vokey for love or money, but when it comes to these clubs for me at least its a feel thing.
