Spare a Thought Today

Never forgotten and never forgiven - how very Christian

I'd forgotten, but the sun was out and we had a nice BBQ. Oh, and some English fella just won the tennis

Not forgotten at all - but at least Andy's victory reminds us that a day is just a day - and whilst we should never forget what happened in London on 7th July - we should maybe stop setting specific days as 'memorial' days to be 'celebrated' for what happened on them. This to me is a fairly recent and not very appropriate but a rather maudline, self-aware and self-serving trend. The 7th of July is the 7th of July. It now has at least two significant 'on this day' events (there will be many more going back).

Murray's victory today should be celebrated fully in years to come - but please let's not always be attaching greater 7th July significance to it so that every time we mention his victory we are not always reminded that something else happened on that day so we should be reflective rather than joyful.

I don't think I have expressed myself very well here - but I hope my thinking is seen as positive and forward looking rather than critical or disresepctful.

You cannot be a good ploughman if you are always looking back.
