Just come back from long weekend in Algarve staying at Pine Cliffs which I rate highly. Met lots of english golfers in the clubhouse and played golf with some of them. Everyone was really friendly and the resort was massive with 16 restaurants so had no need to leave - just staggered back to my apartment after a days golfing, eating and drinking. Doesn't get much better than that!

I went on golf trip to marbella last year and have come to the conclusion that portugal is a million times better than Spain for everything including food, courses, the friendliness of the locals. It's less built up and crowded and the beaches were beautiful. Didn't encounter any scary families with England shirts and tatoos either which makes me wonder what is all the hype about Marbella? Does anyone love the Costa del Sol and why?? All the courses I have played out there have been average.

PS Check out the heavily discounted deals on the website for the "Vacation Club" (codeword timeshare) - three nights £200 plus free golf. Was getting worried about it but they only gave me a load of info rather than making me sit through a boring presenation. Website www.pinecliffs.com.) And no I don't get commission.

I prefer the Algarve, locals friendlier, courses cheaper, food better and cheaper.
I will accept that Valderrama is a superb course but i throughly enjoyed the Old course in Vilamoura.
