We are looking forward to go and play at Spain, Costa Brava. It will be our first time at Costa Brava so we are looking for some suggestions from players who have been there before.

What courses would you suggest to others? Where did you stay, were you satisfied? Did you use any vendor, would you suggest them to our group?

Looking forward to hear your suggestions!

Avoid Lloret de Mar - the place...unless you fancy fish and chips for tea followed by a pint in the Queen Vic. Golf courses - sorry - can't advise.

I did a pros teaching trip there in March, stayed at the double tree hilton and the forest course on resort is
excellent!
PGA catalunya is easy to get to, other than that the courses arent great to be honest

Thank you for the advise.

Costa Brava isn't that good after all huh? What other part of Spain would you guys recommend instead? (except costa del sol, been there alot)

What about the Lisbon area? Good golf south and north. Areoira and Troia are great to the south and Praia del Rey about an hour north. Penha Longa is a bit closer to Lisbon.

Eh??

There are a number of top quality golf courses in the Costa Brava.

It is a great destination and is in my opinion better than the Algarve or Costa del Sol in that it has great courses for less price and if you stay in the correct area (Girona City) you actually feel like you are abroad as opposed to the pie & chips and pint of Bodddingtons you get in the 2 places I have mentioned.

You would be silly to discount what is a great area for golf.

I used to go to Costa Brava as a kid every year with the family and played golf a lot out there. The two courses I remember off hand are Emporda, which is very good and had held some European Tour Qualifying I believe and also Pals, which hosted the Spanish Open on numerous occasions.

Emporda is interesting as it consists of a Forest course and a supposed links course. Both are brilliant in their own right and can be played together as a round, combining the 9 holes on the links and then 9 on the Forest. I found it a challenge to adapt my game to the different 9's, the links does have a strong wind coming off the mountains and then there's some serious lakes to navigate on the forest stretch.

Thanks for all the feedback, noted well.

How about Costa Blanca, a friend suggested today? Good destination compared to Brava and Lisbon?

I live just across the Spanish border in France and play most of my golf on the Costa Brava, there are a number of really good courses there, have a look at these:

Peralada - http://www.golfperalada.com/

Golf Girona - http://www.golfgirona.com/

Torremirona - http://en.torremirona.com/

PGA Catalunya - http://www.pgacatalunya.com/ there are 2 courses here - the Stadium course and the slightly easier Tour course.

Emporda golf - http://www.empordagolf.com/en/

All these courses are in easy reach if you fly to and stay in Girona, you can also hire clubs very reasonably from http://www.clubstohire.com/ and they meet you at the airport.

Go slightly further down the cost to costa blanca. Go to villamartin area and you have las colinas, las ramblas, la finca, la romero and many more to choose from
