Did anyone play, or know anyone who has played in this tournament? It seems a very good price and I'm just trying to find out whether it is legit, this year was the inaugural tournament according to their website.

I didn't play in it, but spoke to the main organiser at Hillside at KofK.

They nearly had Formby included as well, but they said we'll see how the first year goes and may go in next years.

Note though that only the top 36 or something go through to, is it Birkdale or Hillside, the rest play S and A again, or something like that.

I'm sure around this time last year there was an open at Hesketh and the 1st prize was free entry into this, maybe worth looking into if its on again.

Hmmm it would take more than that to get me to play Hesketh again

I thought about this, may go for it if I don't enter either the Eden tournament at St Andrews or the Tassie at Carnoustie next year.
There are a couple of events in N Ireland similar to this where the top xx get to play Royal County Down championship course, the rest play the small course.

It isn't that bad:D I always enjoy it. Although the £1800 joining fee is a tad OTT.

I think in fairness we were just unlucky. Played it on the way back from St Andrews a couple of years ago, entered their 4BBB open in August and the course was absolutely saturated. The holes across the road really should not have been open but the dunesy ones were quite nice.

Is that joining fee typical of all the Southport courses??

I'd pay £3k for Formby, what a course that is!!! Was also very impressed with S&A, unfortunately didn't get to play Hillside as it was on temps (January this year).

Formby has now been added for next year as I'm on the mailing list, so,

Formby, Hesketh, West Lancs & Hillside, top 8 and 4 day winners play Birkdale, non qualifiers play S&A, £329 entry fee with lots of daily and overall prizes.

didnt Darren play in it (2 capper here) think he's given up on the GM forum though (which I empathise with the last 6 mths)

looks like they've got 3 qualifiers lined up this year. Conwy, prenton and, wait for it......

Fleetwood  I think I might give that a whirl.

The WIRRAL classic is a better comp and has been going a few years now and the h/c regime is tough, the winners club is contacted prior to any prizes being issued,£329 sound expensive what do you get for that.

I don't think it sounds expensive, 5 courses that would cost £500-£600 normally and potential, very slim of course, to win some prizes. My only reservation is that you're paying by cheque to an individual so have no real recourse if the comp doesn't go ahead for some reason.
