Just in case anyone was still under the impression that football clubs had any morals or loyalty in the boardroom

Southampton have sacked a manager who has taken them to 2 promotions resulting in the club getting to the Premiership, he has them sitting 15th at present with a great chance of staying up, they are playing decent football and very importantly he has pretty much the full backing of the supporters and due to the way the team have been playing obviously the backing of the players

I know there are a couple of Saints fans on here so can any of them shed some light on this? Is there more to it than what there seems? Because as a football supporter I am struggling to get my head round this.

I now hope that they go down, nothing personal to the Southampton supporters but the chairman doesnt deserve a team in the top league with that attitude.

I am & many off my mates are long time saints fans and have been a season ticket at St marys for years and we love the ground Nigel Adkins walks on ! , so we are totally disgusted at the news today , and are outraged here on the south coast. He has been our best manager ever IMO ,and taken us from 21st in league i to 15th in the premiership.
Yes i know the club is bigger than one man , but i cannot understand our stupid power crazed chairman, does he know some thing we dont ? no ones knows , hopefully this new manager no one has heard of can prove his worth. but he will never as good as NIGEL ADKINS ! , our massive loss -another teams massive win !

If he like living on the coast he should come to Blackpool, mind you he would have to work with a tightfisted chairman, a dilapidated training ground, and a pitch better suited to growing potatoes at the moment. We do have some decent footballers though.

As a Latics fan, I'm pretty happy about this news. Adkins is a fantastic manager who would more than likely have kept you up. The new guy has no PL experience. No idea of how to survive in the PL, and more importantly, no backing yet from the fans. Absolute football suicide. Good for us though.

Sound logic here Folks

When you lose the first X number of games and have hardly any points you don't sack the Manager

Then when you start getting results and moving up the table - you sack the manager.....

Football is a joke

Ach - clearly Saints fightback from 2-0 down to get a draw away from home to the current European Champions isn't good enough - never mind his record.

Adkins problem is that he doesn't look sufficiently suave and continental, and therefore couldn't possibly be the manager of the team that will win the EPL in three years time and the Champions League two years after that.

I'm a Saints fan and I'm completely baffled by this decision. Adkins comes across as a really decent bloke and what he has achieved is very impressive. I could understand sacking him if they were bringing in a Mourinho or Guardiola but nobody has even heard of this new guy!

BBC Solent Sport ‏@solentsport
Confirmed by #Saintsfc that backroom staff Andy Crosby, Dean Wilkins & Jim Stannard have all left the club

looks like is getting worse !

and the statements coming out of St Marys are all about future long term ambition - nothing about current status and positio,

Nuts, crackers - and shameful

until the chairman pays his mobile bill and the sales start!

as regards soton, and Ian Atkins it does beggar belief that you can achieve so much and still get the sack...... then again winning the european cup only gets you a couple of months stay of execution
Most Football chairman are barmy IMO

Have they employed him and sacked him already since they sacked NIGEL ADKINS this morning?

That was quick :mmm: ;)

Shocking decision. I fancied Saints to stay up. Allegedly the new manager speaks very little English and has a game on Monday (weather permitting) and so has little time to work with the squad or get his ideas over. Not sure how they will attract players to the club in what remains of the window.

££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Although to be fair Southampton were one of the biggest spenders in the summer I think. Which makes the decision even more stupid. Then again, I've just found out that the Southampton chairman was born on exactly the same day as me, so if you believe in horoscopes he's more than likely not the sharpest tool in the box

Crazy decision, the man was doing a good job, played good stuff and never whinged about refs etc.

Replaced with a fud who has had 1 job and got punted from that as his side were rock bottom.

Money is ruining the game and it is becoming less and less attractive and losing touch with the working man and has been going that way since the start of the Premiership and the Champions League.

I live in hope the the Premiership eventually collapses and likewise the Champions league.
