So if noticed a few peeps on here with Saints in the name so I'm hoping you guys are local. Back home for the footy against west brom this weekend. Coming down Thursday and hoping to squeeze a round I. Thursday 12-5 ish or early Friday morning. Any recommendations???

I do not recommend the muni in southampton there is a lot of work going on there at the moment and its not a nice course at the moment, also seniors play there on a Thursday in there comp so it could be a long round!.Friday morning i am not sure off, but the cost is cheap at the moment.
Depending on how far you want to travel? there are the crown courses of South winchester(my course), Cams Hall but maybe your best bet is the Pay & play course of paultons, just outside of town. There is also chilworth not a bad course either

Cheers, I'd checked it Winchester. Looks like you got a nice course there. I was thinking of Paultons as visiting the mother n she lives in Millbrook so right side of town. Plus quite cheap which will help as already got 3 nights in a hotel and nights out to cover!

If I had to pick one out of Chilworth or Paultons, it would be Chilworth every time. A nice layout and much better cared for then Paultons.

Just my opinion, enjoy your round wheever you decide on playing.

There are a few other options as well depending on your budget?

Dibden is a decent track with a few testing holes although the back 9 is quite short, another council course so green fees are cheap.

Private courses you have Romsey (short but usually well kept), Brokenhurst Manor (nice), Beaulieu (9 holes twice), Hamptworth (avoid), Stoneham (recommended) or the best in south Hampshire is Hayling which is the other side of Portsmouth, a proper testing links course.

Cams would be a little out of your way as its much closer to Portsmouth than Southampton. Hamptworth is a nice enough course, not sure why Scratch says to avoid it. I played there in the Wiltshire (yes, Wiltshire?!?!?) count champs a couple of years ago and it was in good nick.

Hockley is worth a trip too and its literally just off the M3, really enjoy playing there every year, but Stoneham is a little closer if you can get on cheaply.

Agree about Hayling, top golf course, but would be about a 30mile drive from southampton.

I'm not overly keen on Paultons personally, theres a couple of decent holes but otherwise as long as you are long and straight off the tee you won't have any problems.
Dibden as has been said is a nice course. The Muni s a decent test but is in a mess at the moment because of the work going on.
I would suggest you come and play New Forest, but then I'm biased!:D

The problem with Hamptworth is that it has a handful of nice holes (10, 11, 13), a few wide open boring holes (1,3,5,12,15) and a handful of very badly designed holes (2,7,9,18) and the remainder are OK.
The greens are generally pretty good though.

Played at Stoneham 2 weeks ago and is definately worth a visit. Some quirky holes, and hilly in places. "Le Tis" is a member there so if you are lucky you might get to see/play with him.

P.S. I'm not a Saints fan :)

Stayed in the new forest last year and played here, highly recommended, really enjoyed it.

I was a member at South Winch until 2 years ago, cracking course and worth a visit!

I loved playing it for the back 9, TBH the only bit I didnt love was the stretch from 4-8... I just liked them a lot instead!

Played Stoneham last year on the county card (£36 for a full day is a bargain, and the course was empty). Thought it was good, not stunning, some of holes are a little plain, and succession of par 3's in the space in 4 holes is a strange one. But finishing with the walk up that hills (and other up and down walks) is the biggest issue. Slept for a week after that day !
