Not techniqually a meet, but with the forum growing as it is, I was wondering how many of you are around the surrey/hampshire/berkshire area and would be interested in some kind of meet. I am aware that homer and htl have discussed this before.

A possible date could be, monday 26th may(bank holiday), the day after the conclusion of the BMW at Wentworth.

Please leave your name/location and also whether you would be possible to do this date?

Thanks, Liam

Liam,

Am in Bristol but would be happy to support a South (GM Forum) event.

Only thing to consider however is that golf courses on Bank Holiday Monday will most probably be absolutely rammed with people.

DHM.

Good call about the bank holiday. I was thinking maybe a weekday in the middle of Summer (Liam will be on school hols!). If we get it organised in advance (or at least decide on a date) we can get the day booked in work.

The courses shouldn't be as busy as weekends and the green fees will be cheaper for those on a budget. My vote would be for Silvermere in Chobham in Surrey which is pretty close to the M25 and M3 and A3 and is relatively cheap.

Haven't played it for a few years but I know the 17th is a par 3 over water and the second at 18 is to an island green situated right in front of the patio and clubhouse (no pressure then!!).

It is only my suggestion but would be happy to go elsewhere. From a slightly selfish perspective I could recommend Downshire Golf Course in Wokingham which was voted one of the top 10 pay and plays in the country a few years back. It is always in good knick and has sandy soil so doesn't get too wet.

Over to my fellow Southerners for their views and alternatives

I'm sure you can make it up to her somehow. I'm just concerned if we go for a weekend, people will have more important events at their own club, the price will rocket (not a prob for me but may be for others) and that we will have trouble booking a suitable date, time and venue

I'm up for a meet, have been mentioning this sort of thing for a while, but work and other stuff have been taking up an awful lot of time lately.

Am in Kent so a trip round the M25 should be quite easy.

Also I reckon Medwayjon maybe up for this, and we can probably travel up together!

Will keep an eye on the post!

Its all good that we have so many willing players but we need someone to step up to the plate and get a date and venue sorted.

Sadly I'm tight for time in the coming weeks so can't be the main facilitator but would be willing to help co-ordinate

I'm happy to co-ordinate things, so if anyone wants to put forward a venue please PM me.

Well those who'd be happy to go forward on the 26th then we can, but of course we could get something a lot more bigger during the summer holidays.

For a venue i was thinking Pine Ridge in camberly, i go over there a lot, and its a quality course, doesnt get too busy on weekends either.

Liam

Liam,

I know Pine Ridge and agree its a pretty good track (from deep within my memory banks). I can't do the 26th but would be open to most other dates. You'd need to consider how we do things like booking the course (do they need a deposit and if so how do we get payment to the organiser?)

Also reffering to your choice silvermere Homer, i played there 3 weeks back now, I was totally lost for words of how rubbish the greens and tee's were, yeh the fairways were nice, but the greens were either sand or baked mud.

Hi guys
I'm always willing to travel for golf but think Surrey will be a bit of a trekfrom Bristol (traffic is pretty rubbish aruond Bracknell even mid-week)so will probably opt out.
Might suggest a west/west midlands get together if I can summon up the energy.
Best of luck with the day.

If we go to Pine Ridge you can by-pass Bracknell completely as it near Camberley (and lets face it the best thing is to by pass it anyway it is a hell hole - and I live there - well in thenew posher part anyway!)
