My laptop and one of my daughters notebooks need re-placing! There does seem some good offers out there at the moment, I am ok with computers but certainly not a wizard!! , has anyone bought one recently on a good deal?

Tbh I am not fussed on make!
My nephew normally finds me a "good deal", but he is off travelling for a year (selfish git:whistle:)

I do not really want to pay more than £350 on the Laptop!

Any help will be appreciated!

I just bought a Dell inspiron, £400 with a £50 trade in on my old HP laptop taking it down to £350. Dodger its not the laptop thats slow and if you have a decent operating system it'll run fine.

i have a dell laptop, its far from slow, has an intel i7 processor, 4gb of ddr3 ram, etc..

i'd recommend ebay, you can get refurbished laptops at really good prices
with the buyer protection its as good as buying from a known retailer

Never had Dell, any good?

Yep Dell are good. The thing I like about them is that they are sturdy and well built. I have 2 laptops that must be over 8 years old running XP and they are still fine now. Anything I've had to change through wear and tear I've changed myself, thats another good thing, spares are readily available.

I dont know about Acer, only ever heard great things about Dell laptops.

On a slight tangent and apologies for the hijack but HID wants to go wireless and get a laptop rather than me using our old base unit in the spare room. Does anyone know a) what I need to do to install wireless in the house and b) how I'd set a lap top up to connect to the internet.

PM offline if you want to but for starters buy a laptop with built in wireless 802.11n

Your internet provider should really provide you with a wireless router. If you've had it installed for a while and its not wireless then first port of call is to ask them to send you one. Hopefully this should be FOC but I think I probably have something lying around that will be suitable if not. Then its a doddle to set up.

I'm a certified WLAN engineer which helps.;)
