I was sat typing this morning and when I stood up I had very bad pain in my lower back, it has eased on one side but it is still very sore on one side, especially when I try to turn. if a don't move it is fine but when I move the pain returns.
I have never had back problems in the past and I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to ease it, besides the obvious go to the doctor.

Possibly a strain or stiffness from a weird sleep ?

Would maybe get some heat pads to put on the area that is in pain

something skeletal has locked in place whilst you were sitting, and when you stood it's not released putting additional strain on the surrounding area and joints.

whilst 'hot' is not generally recommended, if the above is the issue then a radox bath followed by walking around should do the trick. if you can't fit in the bath bit then just walk a few hundred yards 'properly' ie include arms and good posture.

the other alternative is to throw yourself backwards flat against a solid wall - but that's more a rugby prop's solution than a general recommendation!

it will probably clear of it's own accord - if not see the doc!

I suffer from a sore lower back most mornings, my solution is to put the heated seat on in the car when i go to golf. I can choose which panel of the seat heats up, it really helps. done this the last couple of years

Doc is 'obvious' first call, but often 'pretty useless' as advice is often 'rest and pain killers' (which may, however, be the perfect/sole cure!). For those of us with chronic dodgy backs, there may be other fixes - like manipulation.

I've actually had a cripplingly sore back for the last 3-4 days - though it wouldn't prevent me swinging a golf club, just teeing/picking a ball up! Rest works!

Draughts and new seating/working/sleeping positions can be sneaky causes!

Try to walk sit etc as normally as possible, as the adjustment/compensation involved actually puts a strain on other areas!

If it was a sudden 'twinge' as you changed position, it could be a minor tear/strain. I once spent 2 nights in agony after one of those, that was instantly relieved by application of 'Deep Heat' - Ralgex over here

It depends if its muscular or skeletal however it's best to see the doc.

As a long term back sufferer I bought a scholl shiatsu back massager from Amazon for around £80 earlier this year and it's been one of the best investments I've made. perfect for loosening up before and after a game.

I dont know if it will help you but when I had a sore lower back a few years ago I was given a course of diclofenac to ease discomfort and shown a exercise that I did daily for a few weeks. Not had a problem (touch wood) since.

Lie down on a flat surface and using your muscles try to push the lower back into the floor making your back go flat against the floor as much as possible. Hold for a few seconds then repeat.

thanks for the suggestions, the radox bath soulds nice but we only have a shower. I am trying to move as normal as possible and will see how it goes over the weekend, if its no better then a trip to the docs will be on the cards.
Just glad I don't have any specific golf booked.

Liverbirdie has been complaining of a sore back recently. This week my back has been tight too. Pretty sure it is because we are sitting about slot more than we would in the summer. Poor posture the main culprit.

the problem is did you get 'fitted' for your back?

post a video and the 'experts' might spot something, maybe it needs shortened or a 'regular' one for the days you go driving.
