Alright fellas,

So I'm taking this girl out in a few days time and it sort of came up in conversation about how it was one of my ambitions to hit golfballs into the sea or a lake, thought it might be a memorable twist if I could work in somewhere.

Anyone have ideas where I can achieve this around the Middlesbrough area, probably around night time, and also preferably not so far out of the way that she might think I'm going to use the clubs to murder her and dump her body.

Cheers for any input,

Will

Well the thing is I'm unsure of the illegality of it, I figure its more the principal of putting the effort in to try and do something a bit different.

And they said romance was dead!

Big lake mate, go to a big lake. Moonlight reflected on the water, the soft rustlings of the night time wildlife going about their business. The thwack of the driver unleashing the ball with venom yet direction. Then the scream of the carp angler, as your ball flies through his bivvy door and smacks him on his ar$e!

Save it for the honeymoon mate. You could then go on a cruise with one of those ships that have a driving range on. You could then hit balls into the sea to your hearts content!

Firstly if this is your first date with her, then good luck on getting a second one

I can think of 2 places....

1. Riverside Park, next to the River Tees. Might be dark though, not sure what the lighting is like there. Also, the junkies down there might nick your clubs and balls

2. The stretch between Redcar and Marske. If the tides in you could hit off the top into the sea

Or if the above 2 or no good then just use the little lake in front of the MIMA art gallery

PMSL. :D :D :D

Wonderful thread. I have all sorts of images going through my mind. Mostly of some geezer slashing golf balls into the sea with a gale blowing in his face and the girlfriend with her perfectly made up face, perfect hair being blown around in the wind, perfect stilettos sinking ever deep into the gravel / sand, and the perfect scowl on her face!!!

Let us know how it goes. But I have a feeling you're going to get plenty more time to practice after that date!! :D

If you do get another date, may I suggest cow tipping as an alternative. ;) :p

Haha, well I figured if it all went tits up at least my shame might be somewhat hidden by the night.

slugger - not my first ever date, but first alone with her. Certainly the first attempt I've considered attempting anything so ambitious though.

johnboy17 - good shout on both of those, I was actually going to scout out the dunes between Redcar and Marske just down from the little cafe shack this afternoon to see if I could get away with doing it there.

Its already starting to feel like a charge of the Light Brigade scenario.

what's ambitious about it?

I really am failing to see what would make this such a great first date for her?????

Mind you, the first time i went out alone with my wife, we went to the scottish canoe exhibition!!!! still together 12 years later!

Its not the entire date obviously, going to a restaurant etc, its just when she noticed the golf clubs in my car boot one time she said she'd been to the range a few times and really enjoyed it.

So as a thoughtful add-on I thought it might make a nice touch, not just slot her in my car and make her wait whilst I swan off for 20 minutes to go and knock a few balls about!

why not just go to the range with her and leave your ambition of hitting golf balls into the sea for another day? surely you can go to any beach and do it on a nice day when the weather is in your favour.

I was working under the presumption that its somewhat illegal to do in the first place (along the lines of littering?).

Also I'm fairly neurotic about this type of thing, if I go to the range 100 balls would be too much - especially if it was hot and I ended up with a nice sexy sweatpatch, if I went for 50 I'd feel cheap.

Another consideration is that there might not of course be a 2nd date, I'm not on solid land with this one just yet.

Plus it doesnt have quite the same effect, your ideal night out with the wife must consist of getting a couple of sausage rolls from Greggs and popping down the newsagent for a copy of razzle and an early night!

Yeah try the stretch between Redcar and Marske. Or try on the south gare in warrenby near the shutdown blast furnace.
Infact anywhere along the sea front is probably safe since what your hitting into the sea is better than is normally washed up.
Or an even better idea is to take her for a pacittos ice cream and she can indulge herself why you wack a few into the sea. Happy days.
