So i've been testing loads of things out with putting, and settled on a kids putter with added weights on it. I find it works really well, but i get the best consistency by gripping it approx 15 inches from the head (i added an additional grip).

Is the within the rules to grip so low down the shaft? I know the 10 degree thing applies with golf clubs, and i do tend to get most consistency by standing fairly close to the ball (not vertical however).

I also am experimenting with overgrips (using tennis grips). I find that using one more roll gives less movement on the putter. Using too much however seems to lead to less consistency. Does anyone have experience with this?

My other question was in regards to roll. I find that when i get good roll, i tend to get less consistency with my putts. When i get the little bounce at impact, i still tend to get 18 out of 20 fifteen foot putts in (on a bowling green surface!). Ive tried to change the ball further and then more behind in my stance, but i get more consistency with the ball approx 1 inch from centre when i putt.

What is everyones thoughts on roll. Do you get good consistency with good roll?

If you get good roll you should be more consistent rather than "when you get a little bounce".

Ball should about 1 to 2 inch off left foot (for right hander) for best roll imo.

P.S If you hole 18 out for 20 15 footers you should be on tour.

With respect, no you don't

I use a driver wide putter stance for balance, so the ball cant be close to my left foot.

Should have added, that ive been putting on a putting green in a bowling club, which is a flat surface, however my putter is really small and i added a lot of weights, so i do get great consistency. I literally spent 2 hours a day for the last month working out the variables in my putting.

I find that when i take weights away i get less a lot less consistency but more distance. Im basically fitted 7 pound coins to each cavity in the club head and added led tape to the top of the shaft.

Bowling club or not I just cant see how you can have great consistency with a little bounce. It just doesn't make any sense.

Your putting stance sounds very unorthodox(however you spell it :) ). Have you tried longer putts with this stance as it doesn't sound like a good technique for them imo.

You grip your putter 15 inches from the head???? Do you kneel down? How does that not give you chronic back problems?

The bounce is pretty small, but what im saying is when i go on proper greens i know ill get pitch marks etc.

I need to adjust my stance and grip slightly for 30 foot plus putts, but i look at the hole when putting and just try to get within a 4 foot radius.

Does your putter look like this by any chance?

Well they took the michael at first but after hammering them at putting i shut them up.

Anyway just looking for answers re the grip position, because its almost vertical.,.

What age are you and what height are you? I know for me, bending over to 17" from the ground for 2 hours a day for the last 2 months I'd be paying the Chiropractor a few visits.
This coupled with you using a kids Dunlop Tour putter (nothing wrong with Dunlop putters as I use one) and you "hammering" your mates with your putting skills makes me think this is a bit of a wind up, not to mention your diver width foot stance and number of posts... Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, if works for you, good on ya.

So your using a kids putter with a tennis grip on it and 7 quid in coins taped into the cavities, your practising on a bowling green with an extra wide stance, getting a little bounce but holing 18/20.

I think your yanking everybody's chain! Lol

I agree with Simbo - this feels like it is a wind up.
How on earth would you create a pitch mark when putting? The ball isn't pitching on the green even if it does bounce a little.

15 inches above the putter head - that is 38cm from the floor - either you are a tiny human being or you are going to end up hunchbacked.

18 out of 20 from 15 feet - that is the only believable part of the initial thread - but you need to work on your spelling, it's 'centimetres' or 'cm' for short.

And let me get this right - you are practicing on a bowling green and they have allowed you create a hole for you to putt - enough with the left leg mate, can you pull the right one now as well?

The short putter is not unknown, and is known to be extremely accurate compared to conventional methods

Paul Trevillon, who publicised this method is the guy who used to draw /produce the comic strip "Ask the Ref" type things you used to see in boys comics in the 1970s.

But even so, I don't believe 18 out of 20 either - most people couldn't do that on flat carpet at 6ft, let alone 15ft

Londonlewis- glad you agree mate, but holing 18 out if 20 is nowhere near believable! That's a 90% success rate!
I know tour stats are not really comparable to a straight putt on a bowling green but il tell them anyway. At 15 feet it's not even a 20% success rate for the pros!!

Il bet the original poster is sitting laughing seeing this nonsense go for a page and a half!!!

Cheers Simbo but that's why I said he spelt centimetres wrong... as in he makes 18/20 putts from 15cm...
Never will I ever believe that this guy makes 18/20 from 15 feet until I see it with my bare eyes or have an unedited video footage to watch.
