Some people take golf wayyyy to seriously.

Does it matter if you have 25-30 clubs in your bag if your not in competition? NO

Btw i have 15 in my bag,im just making a point saying 25-30.

Now if your you were in competition then you could trim it down to 14.

We all arnt professional golfers here you know, theres following the rules then theres being plain stupid.

Anyway happy golfing!

Sorry no we cant just go around changing rules to suit ourselfs. Its no wonder some people get upset when they get called out for some infringement when they dont bother to "learn to play by the rules.

Besides you would be much better off playing with less clubs say six or seven this would teach you to manufacture shots, a skill that seems to be lacking these days??

But whats the point in playing with 15/ 18 or 20 clubs in practise/social games, if you the dont have that club you 'need' in your Medal ?

Just about what I was scrolling down to type.

I see no point in using 15+ clubs, at the end of the day you are just cheating yourself and your ability to create shots suffers.

And yes he sounds like Benny.

You could see which ones are trustworthy, and then dump the poor performers.

You could then carry an empty bag in the next medal.

Seriously though, play by the rules, it is what makes the game what it is. You don't see Mclaren practicing with a turbo charged 8 litre V16 do you.

There are times when we'd like to carry that 15th or 16th club in our bag, but if we did & got used to the idea, then come competition time then we'd want to do the same & get penalized shots.

TipTop has someone you play with been getting on your back for carrying an extra club in a social round ?

If so on one side the person you play with is right, on the other what's the bother if its a social round no point in falling out over one club... rofl... Assuming you arn't taking 18 or 20 clubs with you, in which case its weight that is pointless & means a very crampt golf bag.

Leading on from the 14 club rule in an additional direction, with the inclusion of hybrid clubs these days & the increasing need these days for people to have gap wedges where the SW is 55' or 56' & the PW 45' instead of 47' or 48', then it does beg the question as to whether the rule ought to be changed to allow 15 or 16 clubs, as to me that does seem to be the way manufacturers are leading the game.

However until that happens I'll keep to 14 clubs, its a good habit to get into & means we have to make a choice of what to carry & if we know a course or have taken the time to study the course guide we'll know what clubs in the boot we need to put into the bag. Simple.

If this isn't Benny he deserves the same treatment as Benny as this is just a wind up surely!

I'm now ignoring this post.

I've been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post.

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would lug 14, or even more, clubs around with them.

Try ditching half your clubs and your scoring will not suffer unless you are a pro or a good scratch amateur. It might even imrove as you are focusing on just hitting the balll instead of wasting time trying to decide whether you should hit an 8 or a 9 iron when, in fact, you are not a consistent enough ball striker for it to really make any difference over the course of a round.

I have carried more clubs with me on the odd occasion but normally when I am on my own and trying to decide which of 2 clubs is better off in my bag. Most recently I carried a 5 wood and a 3i hybrid to see which stayed in the bag and which stayed at home.

I've often done this when on my own, just to see how I get on with them under different circumstances.
Truth is there are clubs in my usual 14 that see very little action from one round to another, so taking less would definitely be an option (I have gone round with 4) but before a medal you start with what if and end up with the full 14.

Guys don't waste your time trying to explain why you should only carry the required amount of clubs because he aint listening!

Out of all your post all he took note of was 'who's Benny'?

I recon he's at school in detention and wants some attention mummy isn't giving him at home!

But seriously.....who is Benny?

If you play the same course week in week out there are clubs that just don't get used.
I can honestly say that my 6 & 9 irons have had so little use that they still look like new. 4 iron I have hit about 3 times in last 5 weeks. 3 iron, 7 iron, p/wedge, 53* & 58* wedges get most of the attention. I honestly think that 11 or 12 irons would be sufficient. Driver also sits in the bag for some rounds if were not on good terms.

Oh and Benny, he was on when I first started posting but disappeared. like has been said, let sleeping dogs....
