Tomorrow, for the first time ever I think, we have a fun "Tiger Tees" competition running at my club. The ladies are playing off the white tees. I have NEVER played from these before since they're reserved for men's competition play and am looking forward to it.

The slight problem is that I've already signed up to play in the open at a local course so I'm doing that in the morning before running across town for this. Will be tired and hungry! (Excuses in early)

My course is very short but its defence is narrow fairways, often with severe trouble for small misses, and smallish greens. The white tees make it 500 yards longer than off the reds with some holes much the same but others totally different. Still not a long course though - only 5350 yards - I've played several away courses this year that are longer off the reds. (But with wider fairways!)

SO..... my average gross score in competitions on this course this year is 78 (Par 69/SSS 68). There's no ladies par or SSS off the whites so can't give you that.

What's the verdict? How will I do off the whites? Better/Worse/About the same?

Oh, and if I play crap it just reflects on me on the day not the overall standard of ladies golf! :D: ;)

Oh, best round this year is 73, worst 83 (except for one disastrous stableford but I didn't complete all the holes that day).

I've gone for "Not Bad" - will be very happy if I can break 80!

I've gone "good"

Played off our whites earlier this year and was 2 over handicap (Reds 5268, Whites 6310). I found a couple of holes really played long and needed 1 over reg into the green but others actually suited my yardage.

That's good scoring - much bigger difference at your place!

Sorry, but I've gone for disaster. However, I did look up the wind speeds in your area for tomorrow. a tad breezy.

500 yards would add just over 2 shots to the SSS if it was based purely on distance (1 shot/220 yards).

So 2-3 shots would be reasonable. Anything more would be down to tiredness or the rushing about.

Oddly, I was normally in the top few places, often with much better than normal scores, in the once a year comp off the very back tees (can't even see the fairway on the 1st) at an old course. Only 300 yards longer, but some holes were completely different.

Relax and enjoy it. It's when I try to force things that I get into trouble.

I've gone for better!

You'll think and concentrate more, and lets be honest Karen 5250yds aint long for a 7 h/capper

Karen, sorry I've gone for unlucky hen, last time I played with a lady who was off 9 from the white's on Lansdowne she scored in the 90's, it was just too long with an extra 900 yards for her to handle.

I don't think your course is very long so I don't see it making a massive difference, if you chip well and a few putts drop it'll be the difference between a good round and a bad one.

I went for >85

Interesting folks, thanks! Can't disagree with anything that's been said! :D

The length itself shouldn't be an issue but I do struggle in the wind so that might be a problem! There's one par 4 I'll struggle to reach in two.... Well 2 but one of them is a struggle even off the reds! Will be hitting longer irons into greens which may well be a factor.

Oh... And I'm just back from a very poor range session so confidence is low!

Have a laugh at this though....

I'm playing the open at mortonhall in the morning and it's 300 yards longer off the reds than the whites at my own place!

I've went for Not Bad. I don't believe you're short off the tee, so the extra yardage shouldn't be a problem.
But on a course that length, wouldn't a more apt description be " Tabby Cat " tees?

Congratulations the 7 smart folks who went for "Not Bad"....

The wind was, indeed, a factor today but more so that I had my worst day with the putter for a while. Holed a nice ten footer for eagle on the first (or is that birdie off the men's card?) but then couldn't get anything to drop and had a couple of three putts for good measure.

Ended up with an 81 and I must admit I was disappointed not to break 80; certainly would have if my short game and putting had been up to its usual standard. I blame my morning round at Mortonhall where the greens were just a tad faster and gave me a torrid time..

Good fun playing the course from different tees - I guess that's something you guys take for granted.

EDIT: 8 folks! Someone do that while I was typing or I am cracking up?
