Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on these are.

With the cost of electricity rising every year has anyone thought of installing PV panels more as a method of keeping the electricity costs down as opposed to making money from them, which was the original reason for installing them.

I work from home running the computer, A1 and A4 printers etc, which means we use more electricity than a normal household who may be out at work and school all day.

The other side of this would be I could run the washing machine, dish washer, tumble drier etc when I was actually in and the electricity would not cost me anything.

does the sun shine in Scotland? :p

in all honesty, i am not up to speed on them, i looked a while ago and it wasnt financially viable for us, to be honest with your power use you state, i would imagine you would need a pretty big deployment of panels!!

I had a look at the various schemes. It was pointed out to me that none of them take into account the potential cost of removing the panels once they are no longer working. Allegedly the process of creating electricity makes the panels toxic..and so not as simple as just taking them down to the local tip...
