I've got my society stableford on saturday and I really fancy my chances of winning. So much so that this weekends comp has occupied my mind for the last two weeks.

I'm not sure if i'm putting too much pressure on myself in the build up to it but i'm hitting the range more than often and thinking loads about what strategy to go with.

Ideally i'd like to just turn up in the zone and forget about points/scores/all the banter and just go out and get myself 40pts.

As we know, its not that easy.

My mindset is going to be, enjoy the round, get 15+pts on the front 9 then if i'm up to the 30pts mark with a few holes left i'll then start to think about bringing the trophy home. I usually think "score 2 pts per hole" but this does me in as if i have a hole where i dont score i let it occupy my mind too much and try to get the points back on the next hole.

I know i haven't really asked a question here but just wanted to air my pre-match thoughts.

Sounds complicated to me. Just go out, have a laugh, bash a ball round, and you will be ok.

One thought, if you want to be in contention, don't go in the bar for 3 hours before you tee off. It doesn't work.

Good advice Murphy..... I usually have the one beer before a society round to calm the nerves but i'm off in the 4th group so will only have about 8 people watching.

Fingers crosses, i'll give an update on sunday.

Double Bogey is Bogey, Bogey is par, par is birdie, birdie is eagle....dare I say it, Eagle is albatross....good heavens....god forbid but ALBATROSS....IS CONDOR!
I have this attitude towards my golf and especially in Stablefords. Its alot easier to ammass points thinking like this. I have the trophy to prove it :)

Can't help thinking you are putting yourself under too much pressure before you go out. I've done it myself. You have a stableford coming up and you are creaming it at the range an you have a great round the day before. You go out thinking this is in the bag and suddenly the wheels fall off, the axle breaks, the crankshaft buckles and you find out your brakes are shot.

In essence you go out and either try too hard or think it will be a breeze and don't apply yourself correctly.

Just go out and play the course as it comes. The weather forecast isn't great so that may make it a bit of a leveller. If you go out thinking it is in the bag you might get a nasty shock

You are clearly playing well

You also obviously have some confidence

It know is a cliche but you must play one shot at a time, whilst retaining an understanding of your handicap.

DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID
