Now I'm hoping for some inspiration here, I'm a serial society day organiser who's looking for something different in the way of a format for an 18 hole comp this December. Usual malarkey with 20 of us getting out for a well earned friendly hack after a long project that most of us have been working on. Mostly playing 14 to 18 (mmm Bandits? oh yeah!), but a couple in low singles and only 1 over 20. Looking for something that gets us away from the straight Stableford.... Have you got a favourite or Suggestion?

Happy Slashing!
:D

Played a new (to me) format a week or so ago - draw for teams of 3 (high / medium / low handicapper), shotgun start so all finish together, strokeplay with best 2 stableford scores on each hole to count.

Maybe I enjoyed it because we came 2nd!

Draw for teams of 3 high / medium / low handicapper.

Stableford format with all 3 scores counting on every hole with the points on each hole multiplied together.

e.g. 3 net pars on a hole would be 8 points - 2 x 2 x 2.
Net birdie and 2 net pars would be 12 points - 3 x 2 x 2.
2 net birdies and a blob would be 0 points - 3 x 3 x 0.

Concentrates the mind somewhat.

i think a four ball scramble would be hard to beat
if I was playing in a society, I would hate scramble.. I would want a comp that means I played my ball for 18 holes.

Yellow peril is a good one. 4 ball, take turns to play a hole with the yellow. all scores to count, player playing the yellow ball counts double.
If yellow ball is lost only 3 score count.

we play yellow ball as a 3-ball, all scores to count.
as above yellow counts double (and the order of using it can't be changed). once it's lost you just lose the double score.

also played 'strings' strokeplay/stableford (though I've only done this once)
each player gets a length of string equal in feet to his handicap, which he uses instead of his shots.
he can use it as he wants to extend his shot or get himself out of trouble in any direction (free, no additional stroke) cutting off the amount used (eg Par 4, 6ft from the pin in 2, use 6ft of string = eagle).
