Hi Guys!

As some of you may know form previous posts, I am fairly new to the game but have managed to join a club and should have my first handicap soon.

Just wondering.... Been invited on a society day with a friend and wondered if these are a good thing to get involved in?

The course for this day is Heyrose and is going to cost me £40.

I am told the h'caps of the other members are between 6 and 26 so there should be someone there of a similar standard to me, just don't really know what to expect.

Cant see any reason not to do it, unless someone advises me otherwise!

Thanks Folks!

societies vary; they range from groups who are there for the golf first, craic second to those with the complete opposite attitude, and from those made up almost entirely of golfers to those that include absolute beginners but whom the golfers in those societies really don't want to know and leave to their own devices.

the society I play with are of the first types.

we get all combinations round my course but generally it's the last type that give societies a bad name. they all get an information pack but few if any bother to read them. one of the items in it is that once off the tee they are expected to conform to normal golf etiquette - if you fall behind let others through.

Look at yesterday. All like minded golfers and it didn't matter about ability. All about having some fun. Go out and enjoy the day. Don't try too hard. If you are concerned about those behind, call them through if you get in trouble

I was part of a society a few years back when i used to play a lot and it was good fun everytime, you get to play with/meet different people generally all off varying levels of handicap, all members stuck to golf etiquette on the course and let 2/3 balls through as necessary but the crack after was immense especially after a few swahli's! ;)

I say go for it, could be a really fun day and if not its still a knock and on a new course to boot. :)

Give it a go, heyrose is a nice little course with a mixture
of tough and easy holes. The first is a par 3 and you have
to walk through a copse of trees yo the tee. There is a sign
halfway down the path telling people to wsit for the tee to clear
before they walk down, so at least only yr playing parters will
see yr first tee shot :)
