reading both the Tiger thread and the Paul Casey thread it would seem that they are both marmite characters ,the same with Lee Westwood when the ryder cup thread was at the fore.
so who do you like ,and who is upsetting your nice cosy world and gets under your skin?

Forget pro golfers, you should make it people on here to really spice things up a bit

I like all three mentioned, they all seem nice chaps (not that I've met any of them)

Am I the only one who pays absolutely no attention to any sportspersons personality. It is not a popularity contest. I watch sport and enjoy watching it played well so as long as those taking part stay the right side of the law then that is enough for me. Rarely watch interviews anyway, hardly anything analytical is ever said. So, to me, it really does not matter if Golfer A is nice to his mum whilst Golfer B hates children and puppies.

I always had a low opinion of Colin Montgomerie until I spent 5 hours photographing him at a DeVere PR day. He did an excellent job for them & was an absolute gentleman, as was his father, who I spent a lot of time talking to. Also spent the same amount of time with Mr. charisma bypass Sandy Lyle. Know which one I like the most.

I think I like all the big name players at the mo - Spieth, Day, Johnson, Rory all seems to have decent demeanours and the right attitude to sport and family (now) although slightly unfortunate re the timing of the disengagement.

I've warmed to Phil over the years, like Rose for his commitment to the sport and Luke Donald seems nice guy.

The controversial ones are probably Bubba who's different to watch and listen to and Patrick Reed who I like his approach when discussing RC etc. Doesn't mean I'd want to go for a beer with those two but I do find them interesting.

Hard to really get to a stage where I actively dislike someone, they'd have to be going some with their comments to get to that stage.

Tiger Woods has always irritated me. Zombie like focus on the golf course. Monotone and dull in interviews. The best golfer of my lifetime, Jack was before my time, but no warmth. Monty's sour and rude behaviour put me off him but having talked to MiB, see above, about him I have mellowed.

I like Robert Rock because he smiled and said hello to a group of us once at a tournament when every other golfer had looked miserable and avoided eye contact. (I'm so easily pleased)

Of the biggies, I like pretty much all of them but in particular Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson. Both of them smile and have a level of interaction with people. They behave like humans, not robots. Both also play wonderful golf. Oh yes, Patrick Reed also gets a big thumbs up. Talks honestly and has personality.

Exactly how I feel - to me they are golfers and nothing more.

If I was to play golf with them I would expect them to behave in exactly the same way as you do any golfer (from hacker to Tour pro).

You are not alone!

I admit I prefer it if the player does not appear to be a miserable sod, playing golf in exotic locations for massive prize funds.

But at the end of the day they are working and like a tradesman coming to my house I am far more interested in the quality of their work than their public persona, not personality as that is something that can only be identified by knowing the individual.

Imagine the amount of infractions that'd get given out

On a side note I played golf with a fella from my club on Friday, he said he stayed in the same digs as you up at St Andrews, oldish fella Phil?

Must be mistaken identity Stu, we hired a flat and there was only 4 of us. Maybe chatted to him in the pub or something?

The only one I actively "like" is Henrik Stenson.... apart from that. Meh.

to be fair this is a great reply, and one which I agree upon,

I especilly like McIlroy, Stenson, Rose, Kaymer, D Johnson, Koepka, DeChambeau, Fitzpatrick and Garcia.

As for why - all of them at some point did something that got my attention in a "I like that" way - may have been an interview I saw, a great round, a shot that was shown in a highlights package or they won me money on a bet!

As soon as I decide I like something about a player I find myself paying more attention to their rounds week-in, week-out and then I end up liking them more just by familiarity.

Through various Forum days out,I have met Lee Westwood, Alex Noren, Alvaro Quiros, Danny willet , Dennis Pugh, Oli Wilson,

They were all proper gents, OK Willet was a bit gobby.

My fave Lee Westwood and Alex Noren

Always liked the golfers that were a bit extravert.
It wasn't Jacklyn, Watson or Nicklaus (heresy?) that tweaked me interest as a kid, but Trevino.
As I've aged my favourites have continued down a similar vein, for me personality trumps ability/success everytime, and not just in golf.
Golfers i like watching at the moment are Jimminez (of course), Kuchar, Clarke from my generation, and Willet and you can't forget Beeeef from the young uns.
