Its always interesting to see how people arrive for Golf, some have clearly not touched their shoes since the last round, or even last 4mths, and chucked on whatever came to hand with little thought.
Others are always very smart, and have newly cleaned shoes every time.

I just cant turn out with mucky shoes, simply cant stand it, always cleaned and polished for each game, and I always like to look reasonably smart, well as smart as I'm able to

For me, it might hark back to my Rugby days, when our coach had a policy of 'clean boots and kit' or no play, whoever you are.

Is it just me ? How do you turn yourself out for that weekly effort to tame the game ?

If I went out weekly, I'd be smart. As it is, I'm lucky to turn around my clothes and brush off the worst of the clag from my shoes

I tried polishing my greenjoys, but I think they're not designed for polish :D

I would never dream of turning up for a game with dirty shoes or clothes....
"Look smart, play smart" is the old saying. It doesn't always work but it's a code I adhere to.

My dad instilled it in me from a very early age to be smart to whatever I am turning up for- golf or any other event he always made sure I turned up looking 'respectable'. I therefore always ensure I turn up with clean shoes, smart apparel and more times than not cleaned clubs.

In addition to being what I have been taught, it also boils down to the old adage 'look good, feel good, play good.'

Have to agree, shoes always cleaned, would never think of turning up with dirty gear. With the cost of golf gear these days if you look after it hopefully it will last you longer.

I have a multitude of shoes to match my outfits. As I dress smartly on the course it makes sense to make sure the shoes are clean too. I'm in the look smart - play smart camp

Next time we have a natter on the dog and bone, I'll let you chat to my missus.......

That's why the div' 1 players at mine turn up in rags and an old pencil bag.....

It's not my fault if they haven't got a pot to piss in
;)

Good point. If I spent as much time on my golf instead of earning a crust, I'd be off about 5......

Not even I would swap a job for playing off 5....

I'm in the smart shoe camp too. Especially at the moment as HID just got me a new pair of FJ Reelfits :) Sweet.
Homer, you should get some, they are such a good fit, no more laces breaking as you get ready for the first tee and fast release and getaway if your not in the prizes :(

I wear a white pair of AQLs which haven't faired to well this winter. As a result they are pretty muddy on top. Never given it a second thought until I read this thread!
Dirty shoes = s*&% putting

Looks like im in good company then !!

Mansell: Wet/Baby Wipes, - brill ! We also have a compressed air machine at the Pro shop so I always make sure to blast off all the muck, and then give them a wipe down at home, before polishing again when they are dry.

I think its true, looking smartish certainly starts the round off in the right mindset, whatever the first few holes bring :)

Baby wipes....seemingly miracle things (according to girls).

Will they get the sticky stuff left over when you remove a shop sticker from a new club?

My clubs are covered in stickers, half on, half off, sticky residue, you name it......

I bought a club today and DEMANDED all the stickers were removed before I bought it.....

I've got the white and green Lo Pro's from FJ, I always give them a wipe down with a damp cloth after each round, but should I be treating them with wax too ? What do you guy's do to care for your shoes ?

Now you have hit on a point that I am totally anal about !!

I have to have clean and polished shoes before I play. I have a pair of FJ Drypods in black, I use Kiwi Parade Gloss on them & they practically sparkle before a round.

Having said that, I am quite obsessive about clean shoes anyway and spend Sunday evening on the spit & polish.

It annoys me that many members just chuck their shoes back in the locker after a round, then straight on again for the next one.

I would like to consider myself a smart golfer - certainly from an attire perspective as opposed to the "I can squeeze this shot between those two trees no bother" type of smart :).

I keep my shoes clean by the seemingly popular method of a blast with the air line at the club, then home for a rub down with baby wipes or a wash proper if really muddy.

Then a quick once over with some neutral shoe polish to keep the leather nice and supple.

Clean shoes, smart appearance, sets you up nicely...

I use the compressed air machine to get all the mud etc out of the cleats and then leave them to dry naturally and air. If they are black or my black and blue dryjoys I polish them and give them a wipe with dubbin every two to three rounds. If they are white or white and another colour I'll still let them dry and air and then use baby wipes to clean the leather and rub in a clear dubbin mixture with a soft cloth
