So what initiates your backswing?

Had a bit of a stinker this weekend, hit the ball really poorly and almost forgot what it feels like to swing a club!
Stood over the ball and wondering what the heck to do, my usual "feeling" for want of a better word wasn't there.

Do any/most of you have certain ticks or movements which start the backswing off?

For instance, my practice swing is a tiny swing forward to get momentum going then back as normal, obviously you can't do this when the ball is in front of the club :D

For me both the backswing and downswing are prompted by a series of spasmodic and often involuntary movements that occasionally collide into an alignment that presents club to ball in a reasonably proficient manner. However it often it resembles an octopus having electro-therapy treatment when it goes wrong

I don't set up with too much shaft lean, but I then have a slight forward press, which initiates the swing.

3 small things I always do to make sure the ball goes closer to the hole.

1. quick prayer to Saint Seve.
2.deep breath
3.close eyes

never fails

I don't bother with a backswing as it makes it too difficult to get into the same position at impact as I was at address. I am now able to match these positions exactly...... ball never travels very far tho....

Seriously, with me it's just a case of taking the club back. Currently, I'm thinking of my left arm initiating the move but, in reality, both arms and shoulders are turning pretty much as one.

For me there is no thought, the time for thinking has gone, I did all that as I walked up to, selected my club and lined the target up. Then a practice swing, step up pull the club back and hit the ball down the target line. Look after it after I have finished, reach into my bag and drop a provisional ...

I'm pretty similar, try to get nice stance then push my hands slightly forward and that's my mental click that I'm ready to go. Actually do it on every shot from driver through to putter.
