Without wanting to get into the whole 'football's not what it was used to be' garbage; Do the footy followers here think that...

a) at 24, he's worth it and will be a massive success for them
b) he'll have the same or a better impact than he did in the FAPL
c) he will be back in the FAPL or Bundersliga in 3 years
d) he should have stayed for one more season
e) he'll be coincidentally injured for loads of international weekends
f) none/some of the above and sommat else...

Obviously he's a good player, but he's ad 1 good season in the EPL. Think he scored 9 goals season before last. He's not in the same class as Ronaldo or Messi for me. I predict a flop. Only time will tell.

I think a) Bale will be a big success for Madrid.

I'm pleased that he wasn't playing today against us, he will definitely improve any team that he plays in.

He's still young and can get even better.

Same with most footballers who care too much about their wallet instead of national pride
f) none/some of the above and sommat else...

To summize. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY.

b) Doubt it
c) Quite probably
d) No
e) Yes
f) See above :D

I'm not sure exactly what he offers Real Madrid; he does what he does well, but his game appears to me a little one-dimensional compared with some of they players that they are supposedly considering offloading (Ozil, Higuan). Still, his ability to fall flat on his face at the slightest contact should mean he's got one aspect of La Liga already covered.

The sale was pretty much done and dusted a week ago when Spurs spending went ballistic. Yesterday their spend for this window went over £100M so he had to go to fund that. His biggest problem will be coping with the expectation that has been put on him by the ridiculous fee and that he is going to Real Madrid.
I can see him being another very very expensive bench warmer for them I'm afraid and it's not good for Spurs either as he was such a key player for them.

I think a) Bale will be a big success for Madrid with shirt sales.

I'm pleased that he wasn't playing today against us, he will definitely improve any team other that Arsenal who are beyond repair, that he plays in.

He's still young and can get even better at diving .

I think he will do ok, they don't pay that sort of money without knowing his ability inside out. I am not a Spurs fan so not saying this out of loyalty

...and also in today's news - school very badly damaged by fire - five 11-14 yr olds arrested and charged with arson. Detryoed included two blocks refurbished over the summer at cost of £200k. What's the fuss - minor money - 2/3rds of Gareth Bale weekly wage. Ah well. As it's invidious to make such comparisons I won't comment further.

From big fish in relatively small pond to smallish fish in the big sea .. I think he will struggle to start with but will settle in .

one thing i think he will struggle with is he formation of defences he now faces , in EPL pace is a major asset as teams press you high up the pitch and if you can turn and get behind them there's loadsa space to run into ,,

on the continent i think skill has a much higher precidence [sp] , they tend to let you have the ball more in your own half and only press after half way , crowded defence means you need more than just pace ..

Look he is a good player so he will do well enough ,him or no other player in the world even Messi is worth that sort of money tho ..

Wouldn't it be funny if he failed his medical, Spurs would be over 85m in debt lol

I've actually heard that even if the Bale transfer hadn't gone through, that they had a fair bit of extra money pumped in this year, and could have afforded the other players anyway. I doubt it personally, but you never know!

A few bitter seemingly responses on here :D

I think he will do really well and be a major asset. He is a class act.

Probably a vary naive question but.... Since the Spanish economy is so badly broken how are their clubs the richest in the world?

The Spanish government/local council keep baleing (gedit) them out. They sold their old training ground to the council the other year, who overpaid a massive amount.

Also in Spain, each club negotiate their own TV deals so Barca and Real earn tonnes more than say Valencia. Even UEFA have said that this is wrong, although haven't enforced anything, so basically FFP wont apply to them two clubs.

Whereas Man U may get twice the amont of what Cardiff get from Sky, Barca may get 15 times what Getafe get, if I understand correctly.

I believe their income tax/VAT may be going up a very large amount, so they reckon more good players from Spain may come here, as not the same tax breaks as yesteryear, but I doubt the real stars will come, unless for footy reasons, or maybe Chelsea/City can only afford them.
