Probably been posted loads of times but just one more time for the braindead :D

I have numerous cards, a few just over 100 (102,104,106) and the last two rounds after a lesson I've shot 90 both times.
Do I put in my top three or a say one 90 and two over 100?
I guess my question is what really decribes a handicap, is the your best on a decent day or middle ground between your good and bad rounds?

I don't think I can shoot 90 every time at the moment more likely break 100 most times I play.

Put in your three most recent. I wouldn't put in any of your 'historical cards' you might get asked some questions if they were done a while ago.

You have to put 3 cards in but only your best actually counts. So your 90-SSS who be you handicap minus any shots over a double bogey on any given hole.
Congu suggests your h/cap should Be nearer your best ability than your average round on shooting buffer (level- +2/3) around 3/4 times out of ten.

I'm a newish member mate, ain't had a handicap before.

Never thought about putting the newest 3 in.

*facepalm*

I wouldn't worry about it, I didn't have to declare mine. I waited for the winter to end so the course was full stretch and handed 3 cards in a row in and was awarded my current HCP. Since then I've played 3 comps and N/R in one (Medal) and shot 34 points in the other 2. Playing 4 comps in the next 2 weeks though so if I play the game I'm capable of I should get a cut.

Do you not need a current member of the club to mark your cards for you as i know some clubs will not take self marked cards

Strange. I thought you had to declare a handicap round prior to going out and that you had to hand in the card irrespective of whether the score is a 'usual' one for you.

It doesn't mention that as a requirement for initial handicap cards in the CONGU Handicap Guide although it does mention that as a condition for supplementary cards, so I can only assume it's not the case for your first 3 cards.
