As a relative newbie to golf, I've been struggling with inconsistent ball contact - so much to the point that I didn't want to go and play a round on a par 3 course with a friend even, as I would never be able to consistently his clean contact with my tee shots.

After my second one on one lesson, we have found the problem, and I can't believe how much difference just a slight change in setup makes!

Yesterday my pro realised that although I was rotating my upper body well on the backswing, I was deliberately trying (thinking it was the correct thing to do) to keep my hips in line with the target. I wasn't moving my hips at all on the swing.

By introducing a smooth hip rotation with the takeaway, he had me hitting ball after ball with nice clean contact, that I am now feeling really happy that I have found the "barrier" that was preventing me improving!

Only a small step in my golfing journey, but it's absolutely remarkable how much more confident I now feel! Before I was hitting like 40 out of 80 balls with a nice clean contact, and now straight away it's like 70 out of 80!

I know...cool story right :D

Lol Bristol - I for one am finding your mini-stories a bloody good read and your journey has something very endearing about it. I dunno what like, I just like reading em...;)

Glad that the lessons have highlighted a flaw that was holding you back. Here's to 80 out of 80!

Lol, glad I'm entertaining someone as I've been frustrating the hell out of myself! :D

It feels totally different now, before it just felt random, like when I hit a good one, I didn't know what caused it to be any better than the one I'd just topped or whatever.

But now that I have been shown what was holding me back - and seen the difference - I can't believe just how much difference it makes.

It's amazing how having just that little bit of hip rotation on the takeaway allows me to rotate the upper body so much more, which prevents my left arm breaking down on me, as it did before. It feels as if I've gained another 20 degrees of flexibility!

Also, there are certain members of this forum who moan constantly about their game and whilst they score better than I'd dream of seem to have sucked all the fun out of this stupid pastime.

More power to you for the enthusiasm on display!!!

Glad you made a breakthrough but a word of caution, one change may lead to another flaw developing as you get to build a good swing so be patient. Keep it going though as you are clearly moving in the right direction and never be afraid to play with anyone, anywhere

4 years till a pro picked that one out for me! Does make a massive difference I agree! Keep cracking on and having fun!

Yeah I'm sure other flaws will come and go! But this feels big, as my inconsistent striking was starting to ruin my enjoyment and now it feels like a big weight has been lifted as I feel confident going up to the ball that I CAN make a rrepeatable strike. There can and will be any number of reasons why I have bad shots still, but I know now at least what sequence of mmovements for me results in a reasonably consistent strike!
