We had a 4bbb club competition today, two of my normal group and another member who ive played with before. Spaces were booked into via HDID and have been filled for a few weeks and start sheets were out two weeks ago. Got to the course and was called up to the tee with no sign of our fourth. the other member, teeing off at 10.50, he then calls up at 10.48 to say he can't make it as he's "injured" leaving us to play with 3...

Now I am all for if your injured you can't play, but can you call up two minutes before your tee off time to decide you can't play or do you know your injured when you wake up? Had we have known he wasn't going to be able to play we could have sourced someone from the reserve list or another of our usual group...

Was really frustrating, it was 3/4 handicaps and meant that 2 of the 3 had to score to be in with any chance.. We managed to come in with a respectable 72 points which was even par and I managed to get on the scorecard on 14 holes, with 5 pars and a birdie playing off 15.

really makes you think you could have put in a better score had we had a full team...

Unless he got injured on the way to the car what he did was inexcusable - he let 3 others down last minute!

Sounds like the hangover excuse to me. Saturday morning, late notice. Hangover. I bet he'll be fine to play next week.

Note, this may sound bitter and cynical, but I'm injured and would love to be playing so I'm entitled to be a bit cynical.

My thoughts exactly. Not about you being bitter (!!) but him deciding he didn't fancy it for some reason or another. Poor show Phil but sounds like your team did well considering.

I have to agrre with Oddsocks. If you're 'injured' then surely you would know that before tee-time. I think you may need to find a new team member in future, leave him out the team and he'll think twice before pulling the same stunt again.

Yeah we didnt do too bad after getting over the initial frustration, 2 of us played really well and the other put got the points when needed.

It was one of those 3 spaces on HDID taken, they have a space, il go in... really isn't fair on the others in the team... guarentee he won't be blacklisted at all..

That's my point, we had a well stacked medal today 8 reserves turned up and due to no shows ringing in advanced all slots were filled

Poor show. I know our club was talking about having to phone in at least 30 minutes before the tee time or face a ban from the next comp so they have a chance to get a reserve. I'm all for that except it is impossible to manage. How does the pro register what time Fred Smith call when he's trying to get a shop full of competitors served and now has to call up a reserve. Great idea in principle but not practical. I would be having words about how let down you were. Wonder if he'll play tomorrow in the sun
