Hi all

Does anyone have any experience of any gadget, potion or anything else that would help snoring? I am overweight, so I understand that is the first place to start, but any other tips would be appreciated.

ps. I haven't got a spare room currently so that is out of the question, much to my wife's disappointment...

Have you considered divorce? I haven't tried this method myself but I have friends who say they haven't received a single complaint about snoring since they separated from their wife ...

Mate, i have tried everything from nose strips to gum shields and nothing had worked. Even went to the Dr but had no joy there. If you do find a cure/ anything to help then let me know as my wife would be extremely happy.

A trip to the GP would be worth the 10 minutes IMO, chances are there wouldn't be much to find, it'd be worth them having a look-see and seeing if there's anything they can do/maybe refer to an ENT specialist in the unlikely scanerio that there's anything they could do. Having read the last bit of your post though, may want to prepare to put up with a bit of a lecture RE: weight, as GP's love that sort of stuff :).

I went to the doctor, sent to the sleep specialist unit at Boston Hospital. Was also having incidents of sleep apnoea which was why I was so tired all the time Now on a CPAP machine. Means sleeping in a mask but no snoring and I feel 100 times more refreshed in the morning

Dettol and a wire brush. Scrub throat vigorously. If this doesn't work, dip a kitchen grater in Dettol and then scrub.... worked on the ex-wife, although she did struggle a bit....

I went to my doctor and was was referred to the sleep clinic at local hospital. Ended up being fitted with a kind of one piece gum shield that moves my lower jaw 4mm forward which opens airway passage and stops vibrating of parts of my mouth and wife says I haven't snored since, which is about a month.

Thanks for the replies, divorce sounds expensive so must try and sort this as best I can. Will book into the docs and see what happens - might also try a gum shield thing.

Amanda - don't feel too sorry for my wife as apart from the snoring, I'm perfect :D

Move into the spare room mate, then you can sleep in peace, toss n turn, wriggle snore and fart away till your hearts content , without getting an elbow in your ribs .

But still make the occasional trip back across the hall to your old room, when invited. edit sorry just noticed no spare room [ re wind]

Tourniquet round the neck works wonders, also good for stopping nose bleeds :)

I started the process last September and went for the fitting in March,so your wife will have to wait a bit longer for a good night's sleep.
