Can any users give me a quick review of both products?

Can anyone tell me whether the 500 deserves to command an extra £50?

I've never owned a laser or used one. Do I just point and click? How long does it take to get a reading?

How long do the batteries last for? Can you get a charger for CR2 batteries?

I have had the SLR500 for around 3 months now and cant speak highly enough of it, very simple to use and locks onto the flag with ease. Like any of these devices you cannot slavishly accept everything it says as sometimes it will lock onto a fence/tree etc. I normally estimate my distance whilst walking up to my ball or if I am waiting to play my shot, if the two are similar then I accept the rangefinder. I have a friend who got a mis-reading of 200 yards on his Bushnell, he then proceeded to fly the ball about 60 yards OOB, had he just looked he would have seen he was inside the 150 yard markers.

The SLR 500 is small & light and I don't seem to get the shaky hands that I got using a Bushnell. I paid £149.00 for mine and feel its great value for money.

Hope you get the one you want.

CR2?

Bushnell V2 go through these a bit too quickly for my liking (couple of months of frequent, if efficient, use) and didn't really warn - I used to use the ability of the unit to pick up the flag rather than the bushes behind the green as a measure, and tried to have a spare battery with me.

Batteries can be expensive in Pro shops. Much cheaper on Ebay.

Nikon has a sliding scale which is better, but after V2 experience I didn't really trust that either. Slightly longer life, though not certain.

Snooper should be about the same.

If they are CR2s, I have a couple of 'spares'.

One advantage of the larger units like Medalist is that the 9v battery means you can use the rechargeable ones. Then the cost is hidden in your Power Bill!

Thanks all,

Still don't know whether to go for S400 or 500. If the 400 is accurate and doesn't take more than 10 seconds to give a reading, then I'll go for that. Anyone confirm this?

I got the 500 from hotgolf/golf gadgets in may they chucked in2 extra batteries and I'm still on first one. Was £130.
Great gadget IMO is the pin seeker mode the difference if so I would get the 500.

You'll get a reading in 10 secs but you may get the tree at the back of the greeen rather than the flag which is where the pinseekker modes come into there own.

Gotcha- makes perfect sense. Thanks all. Will try and find a 500 at a good price then.

£170 direct from them.

£150 via ebay.
