Well, he let me have his old Alladin putter after Walton Heath, just because he's a soft old git.

It's now official that he's my hero, and he's never getting this gorgeous bit of kit back ( although I'm not sure if I should have a thinner grip on it ).

I played nine holes this arvo around Wellshurst. The greens are the worst I've played this month, although the course is getting to look rather nice.

Boring bit coming up :

1st : 2 putts from 12 feet.
2nd : 2 putts from 24 feet. The first was bang on line, but underhit by 2'.
3rd : 2 putts from 15'. Stonked the first one 5' past. Slipped in the return putt POC.
4th : 2 putts from 18'. Dead on line, but underhit by 6 "
5th : 1 putt from 6'
6th : 1 putt from 3'
7th : 2 putts from 4'. Didn't hit it.
8th : 2 putts from 15'. Dead on line, underhit by 6"
9th : 1 putt from 2'.

That's 15 putts, with potentially another 3 less, once I can get the confidence to hit the damned thing.

The dribbly putt is something I've got in the habit of, because with my old putter, I often missed the one back. This beast doesn't miss the return putt - it's only when I put a bad stroke on it. I've just got to practise more now, and maybe sleep with it a few times to build up a 'proper' relationship.

Oh, and btw;

The answer is 'No, no way, not a prayer.'

If anyone thinks I should give it back.

It's mine now, and I'm keeping it. :D

PS Cheers Smiffy, it's brilliant

The old putter. What make / model is it? The old lad has always had his YES putter when I have played with him.

Anyone who is prepared to go out their way to pick up a stranger from the hotel, take them to the golf course and drop them back off at the airport after the golf is a hero in my eyes!

Smithy the hero, it has a ring to it!

Hero. He may even remember the small but important "gift" passed on to me at Walton Heath, which made my day!

We're talking this. .

I read a review on it, before I accepted his offer of a free golf club ( don't want any old tat in my bag  )

I played with a cheap old putter that cost £12.95 for years and years without a hitch. Was never a fantastic putter of the ball but could generally hold my own.

Swapped out to an MD Alladin earlier this year to great effect (initially). Putted like a God with it the first three or four times out, so much so that my best mate wanted to wrap it round my neck 'cos I kept winning holes off of him that I shouldn't have done by canning impossible putts. Then, for some reason the magic wore off. Three putts started creeping into my game, and horor of horrors a four putt at Ascot on a rare par 3 where I was shotting. I had been staring at least three points in the face and walked off with one! I was spitting feathers.

I then managed to get hold of a Mizuno Bettinardi putter than initially behaved itself, but that too has been causing me grief lately so I have gone back to the MD in the vain hope that I might find some of my old putting magic. Nope. Another four putt two weekends ago at Bearwood Lakes saw the bloody thing go into orbit.

I'm playing tomorrow and have a lovely YES Tracy sitting under the stairs that I haven't used yet. I'm taking it out for a walk to see if I can get some confidence back on the greens.

With that sort of approval, how could I fail :D
