Just before Xmas a small dangly thing that had been there a while had suddenly decided to grow, turn reddish brown and itch. As it was an inch or so above my right eye it was plain for all to see, including me when shaving and putting on my lippy.

Anyway, being a bit of a DIY person, wire cutters seemed like the appropriate tool. Cue blood, but at least I'd cut a good chunk of it off.

Over the period of a couple of months a battle ensued. It would grow and I would cut it. It was becoming a Jasper Carrott like battle he had with moles in his garden.

It occurred to me this morning, again whilst shaving, that a truce must have been declared. It's still the same size it was when I chopped the last bit off, and it's a normal colour.

I suppose it's a bit like the tooth I pulled out last year, who needs medics?

I'm not familiar with small dangly things. Large dangly things however...........

Cue "forum distance" style discussion

I had a similar "foreign object" come up at the base of a finger a good few years ago. No pain, but was very inconvenient. After eventually getting sick of it, I climbed into the bath, let it soak and get soft, then bit it out, roots and all. Plenty of blood, but it never grew back :D

I also once lanced an abscess in my gum with a sterilised sewing needle. The relief was orgasmic.....

Brian, what are you doing! Anything like that which grows, changes colour or itches should be shown to your Doctor. Do it please.

I have read this a couple of times and I don't have a clue what it's about, all that I know is unless it's made of hair or nail you shouldn't be cutting any bits of yourself off.

Um, why not see a doctor, get it frozen, lasered, irradiated, and bashed with a Bible.

Of course, by the time you get seen, it could be like a second head.

Is it a skin tag?

If so I've heard that tying some cotton round it in a tight knot cuts off the blood supply and it dies and drops off.

Skin tag removal (if that's what it is) is normally classed as cosmetic surgery and isn't usually done on the NHS.

There again, in Hobbits case they might make an exception
