Todays roll up and I went out last with 2 others, a 34 handicapper and a lovely 80 year old lady who loves to play but doesn't hit it very far. We weren't held up yet it took us 2 and a half hours to play 9 holes.

I am not moaning although t was a cold morning and standing around a lot didn't help my game, but can anyone beat that for a long round.

I remember a Summer Medal at my last club, I think I was in the last but one group.
The 7th hole was a 200+ yard par 3 and when we got to the tee, there were so many groups waiting that we sat for 40 minutes before it was our turn to play... good job it was a nice day.
We were approaching the 6 hour mark before we got in...still don't know why we stayed out there..

I played in our Captains day a few years ago. I had a tee time of 13:30 but this was already delayed by an hour by the time I got there. After playing the first hole, there were 3 groups waiting on the 2nd tee. By the time we walked off the 10th green we had already passed the 3 and a half hour mark. At this point I decided (with the full agreement of my playing partners) to walk off. I'd arranged to watch a football game with the boy which was kicking off at 19:45 and I would almost definitely have missed it.

One of my regular PP's was in the group in front of me and he rang me at 21:15 when he came off the course... His tee time was 14:22.

Teed off in a singles ko match last yr. There was a ladies 30+ comp out there so we had given them an hour headstart. Worryingly as we came off the 4th green we could see the last of their groups ahead on the 5th. Game ground to a complete halt and by the time we finally got to the 9th I conceded the match to my oppo despite being ahead (last 4 holes taken over 80 minutes). Having spoken to a few people a day or two later I was informed that the last of the groups took 6hrs 20 and because they were "in a comp" didnt let anyone through!

A couple of years ago I was at a golf course in essex and this particular one had cross overs at certain points and you were just about to take your shot after waiting for the green to clear when someone would cross your path trying to get to their hole. Of course being aware of others waiting for you made you hurry up and the resulting shots were crap. I resolved never to return.

BTW it was a society day for us and although nice and sunny , it was rather busy and it took our 4 ball 5 and a half to go round ( I could have grown a beard in less time!) in the morning .

I Slowest i can think of was only 3 holes.

I used to be a member at a course around the corner from me and i used to pop around there the odd afternoon when it was quite as i could do the 8 holes that are the club house side of the road in about 40 mins on my own.

No one on the first tee but could see an old couple half way down the 2nd.
Played the first hole with two balls, got on the 2nd tee and this couple were still only half way down the fairway.

An hour later i walked off the 4th green ( a par 4) and they still had not even tee'd off yet on the 5th:(

On my old 9 hole course we once had 34 players waiting on the first tee.
We worked out that by the time the last in the queue reached the first tee the guys teeing off would have finished their round.

Wow that's incredible, how can golf be 7 hrs.

Worst round for me have both been in Orlando, highlands reserve when it 1st opened was 6 hrs, played at another course on the way back to the airport called Swiss fairways ridiculous pin positions just made it a slow round and I reckon that was close to 6 hrs as well.
both courses we was using buggies so it felt even more painful.

a 34 h/capper and an 80 year old lady, good for them:thup:

I've had longer with fit healthy younger guys who have stupidly long pre shot routines and stop if they hear a bird chirp

I can nearly match it, had a round of just over 6 1/2 hours once. Tough course, tough conditions and way way overbooked. The course will remain nameless as we had a real row when we came in and many choice words were said!!

/QUOTE] More importantly did you hold any one up Louise ?

Nowhere like those above but recently hoped on a quiet enjoyable round late this summer at Port Salon on my own.... caught up a two ball by 7th ... but they were moving a sensible pace and I wasn't pushing but they let me through on 8th to encounter an early 60's couple using a buggy... 2 hours later thunder & lightening brought the agony to end on 14th tee.... there was nobody ahead of them. what was annoying was if they'd let me through I'd have finished round.... but I'm to polite to shout or hit through... was a holiday didn't need aggro.

Ive had a few 5 hours + over the years and several where I given up and gone in its been so slow.

6 hours. Yes, SIX hours. Torrey Pines in San Diego.

We set off at 2pm on a day when the sunset was due at 6.05. In with a chance, I thought, on the first tee. One and a quarter hours later standing on the 4th tee, I revised my opinion. We played the last 4 holes in the pitch dark, and putted out using the lights of cars leaving the car park.

On a golf break to Spain, played Montecastillo, near Jerez. Nice course. Played using a buggy on my own. Played the front 9 in 1 hour and 5 minutes and played the 10th in another 25 minutes having come up behind 2 German 5 or 6 balls. Then gave up and went in.

My 1952 1st Edition of Know the Game - Golf states that 'A round of golf occupies about three hours'

So what the heck has gone wrong...?

I blame it on all these god-damn youngsters on the courses now with their fancy DMD's and pre-shot routines. Wouldn't have happened back in my day. I bet they don't even know that they should be standing in the HNSP. They should all have to go out and walk the course with seasoned players/committee members for at least 25 years before they are even allowed to think about playing the game. :)
