how many times do we hear the same old moan " it takes me a few holes to get going" or "i normally warm up after 3-4 holes" or the classic "only scored 6 points on the front ,but gonna kill the back nine",how many forum members actually warm up prior to playing in a comp. i don't mean the 5 mins having a few stabs with a putter as you talk with your buddies but a proper pre-set routine that can take an hour or so before you tee off.I do my warm up in the nets and on the chipping area and finally on the putting green before every comp. regardless if a medal, stableford or board comp.to be honest your chances of winning could have evaporated by the 4 hole long before "you warm up" or do some forum members not care about winning or giving themselves the best chance to improve.

I don't play competitively, but I still have a good warm up routine, try and do at least 30 balls on range, the chipping and putting for 20 mins if possible. Still mess up the first normally though! Lol

I read an article once that suggested that's the wrong way round to do it. You should start off putting, as it starts to get your mind right and loosens up your shoulders. From there you should go to the chipping area, again it starts to loosen your shoulders and body some more, then onto the range and start with short irons, long irons then finally up to the driver. Your last few warm-up shots should be with the club you intend to use on the first tee.

Not that I've ever done that, but to me it sounds the sensible way of doing it.

I warm up before every game - friendly, board comp or otherwise. I do however do the range first then do putting - the putting green is bang outside the bar and the temptation can be too much!

I generally find if i hit a ton of balls before i go out i actually play worse (ive always been a bit odd!)

My Pre Game routines consits of swinging 2 irons together for a min or so, chipping and putting and thats about it really. Providing i don't feel like i just got out of bed on the first tee then generally im ok And if i was to hit balls before i play , i always hit my last 5 balls with the driver and thats it. most will go on short irons.

Me too the first is spoiling many of my scores despite decent prep! Feel at times may just as well turn up roll on the tee and off we go!

I warm up, but nothing to energetic. Just to loosen up my old bones and get some rhythm going. Usually start ok. But its all down hill from then on.

I always do some sort of warm up. Exactly what depends on how early I get to the course and how busy the practise area is but ideally putting, chipping, irons in the net and finally a few with the driver.

I hate jumping out of the car and rushing straight onto the course.

I feel much more relaxed and confident if I've had a decent warm-up. Usually spend some time chipping and pitching before moving up through the bag, but tend not to hit too many drives. I end with some time on the putting green. Today I had the longest warm-up ever. A natter and cuppa in the pro-shop followed by 45 minutes on the academy course with my 52 and 56 wedges. I then spent 35 minutes on the putting green and proceeded to shoot a new pb. If only I had that much time for a warm up normally!

Very little option but to rock-up and go out.
1 net - complete with holes........
I "chipping" area - read worse than a temporary green so completely worthless
1 putting green - decent.

We have a par 3 course which would be ideal for a warm up but it doesn't open until 9.30 and we can't use it before then - why? I'm not sure - nobody seems to know.........

We normally have a few putts and go.

At my previous club I used to warm up on the range before play.
Can't say it ever made a real difference to the times I wasn't able to - still played well and crap in equal measures

im sure it does help but im always rushing to make the tee time no matter how late in the day it is. usally like to get a wee putt before hand but it doesnt always help. as long as i have a second shot on the 1st hole im happy. nothing worse than hitting your first shot behind or into trees. you can feel your round unravel before you even start. usally happy with a bogey at the first but i should start to get out of that mindset if i really want to improve even more. its like starting a football match 1 nil down. silly really.

I agree with Ian S and on the very few occasions I've done it I have started better than normal, not that that is saying a lot as our first is a dog-leg par 5 to a sloping green that I can mess up whatever warm up I have had:lol:.

every sport you play should start with a decent warm up, especially golf as it's a lot of movement in the back.

a lot of folk i see on our first tee pull up with sore back after first shot, no warm up and try and melt a ball with a massive driver. don't take a genius to see why it was sore

Normally try to do some stretching then hit 25 balls on the range. mainly irons the last couple with the driver. Then onto the putting green for 15 - 20 mins then off i go for a bad round!!
