Slow play/fast play

Everyone seems to complain these days about slow play, personally it doesn't bother me as I see it as everyone pays their money and some people will be quicker than other and we should respect that. I do understand how frustrating playing with/behind a very slow player can cause. It seems in the clubhouse these days after a round all anyone is interested in is how long it took took them to get round, not what they scored, I very seldom post on these slow play threads but I've started this because its something that has been getting to me for a while, the players who complain about slow play can be rude and ignorant to play with and that's why they are so quick round. After playing today with 2 players who quite clearly couldn't give a monkeys what they scored and were just lashing the ball round, I found it very off putting, half the time they never marked their balls, playing out of turn, walking in peripheral vision when I was playing, I was actually marking my ball on one green when one guy putted up past me!!! When i tired to play at my own pace they were way in front standing with hands on hips style waiting on me!, I felt like I was in the london marathon rather than a golf game, we were round in just under 3 hours by the way and I wouldn't class myself as a slow player, but for our course I think 3.45-4 hours is reasonable. And I scored ok before anyone thinks this is sour grapes but I didn't enjoy my game at all!!,
So fast play has as much disadvantage as slow play IMO.

I'm not slow but I hate rushing a round.

At the same time some people do play like they are in contention for a major and its not good to be stuck behind them.

I can't abide slow play myself however that is no reason for bad etiquette and manners. It must have been off puting for you to say the least and very unfair on you.

I purposely slowed down a little today.

Not drastically, just took a fraction more time to take my shot. Took more time over things l normally don't give a second thought to.

Shot 79 so I can't say it was time wasted.

I'd like to add that this wasn't on every hole, and the 2 chaps were fairly nice guys, but it was perfectly obvious their main aim was to be round by xx time and that was WAY more important than what they scored. It just played on my mind and made me very conscious of time, rather than scoring
Everyone's idea of slow play is different!!! A 65 year old 15 capper won't go round in the same time as a 20 year old single figure player, but that doesn't give the quicker player the right to harass them or moan their face off about!!

Course was packed this morning and we were clearly going to go nowhere fast. Accepted the fact early on, didn't get stressed about hanging around and just enjoyed being in the sun. Conditions were tricky and I didn't play great but it wasn't the fault of the pace of play.

I was in a two ball yesterday at staverton park. It was a FIVE hour round. There where a 3 four balls in front that must have been playing skins and changing money on the green of every hole. Take 10 hours to play a round if you like but a little consideration for others please

My biggest grip is a person that is a 150 yards off the tee with a driver, 250 to the pin and out comes the range finder 100 practice swings and they knob it 6 feet! Range finder comes out . . . . . . . . Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Played quite a singles match today.
2hrs 45
The 9 handicap lady i played against stuffed me on 15, and I'm playing very well at the moment .
We had a lovely day, were in no rush to get around, expecting it would be slow if that was the way, but it turned out perfect for our natural speed of play.
We we let through another 2 ball on 6' and when we finished they were on 14 (I think) - to my mind that worked out pefect for all parties

I can still remember the expressions of incredulity of my fellow players as my host on a rather fabulous course - somewhat blighted by the M25 but I always imagine the roar of traffic is the ocean - asked the 3-ball that forced their way through us how their round was and the reply was '2 hours 50'! Our 3 hour 45 round off the Purples resulted in 3 78s and an 80! They probably shot a couple of 95+ and a 100+ by the way they played the couple of holes we saw.

I've played rubbish the last few weeks trying to play fast to suit some members at my club, felt like I had a rocket up my ass today and played aweful again! Going back to normal speed next round! I believe I'm not slow, no slower than anyone elso, first to the ball, time to laser the hole, get a practice swing in then boom! I think sometimes using a laser seems a little alienating, when it only takes a second! Back to normal for me the. Hopefully back to better scores!

I agree!

But it's just as irritating to have 2 guys race past you as your getting set up to play, or standing 100 beards down the fairway waiting for you to play then off they go again AS SOON as youve hit your ball

Well sometimes it is if they have family commitments, have to be somewhere etc etc.

I have played a few rounds on my own where I am not that bothered about the score and I am using it as exercise/practice/a nice walk, but I need to be back home for some reason.

To me the sensible thing would be for the players in more of a rush to go off on their own, and the players who have all the time in the world to play to a decent pace but to play on their own. Easier said than done, but at least then everyone would be happy.

I'm quite happy playing at whatever pace the course (or those on it) dictates. However, during a midweek medal, I like to play a bit faster as I cant tee off till after 10:30, and I have to pick the kids up from school at 15:15.

Now I think that there is plenty of time there for a 3 ball to complete a round, but a guy I played with a few weeks ago told me that "It wasn't a race, and if I had something to do later, then I shouldn't be on the course at all". This was just as I pointed out that the 2 ball in front had opened up a 4 hole gap in front of us on the front 9... I ended up rushing all my shots, just to make up for his apparent fear of moving quick enough to scare the birds...

We're doing the MacMillan Long Golf Day on 28th June - I must say that me and the 3 lads are by no means slow (always ready to take shots in turn etc) but the course we're playing it takes around 3hrs30mins for a 4 ball

Now we have to fit 4 rounds in + stoppages for toilets/change of clothes etc

That day will be speed golf at its finest!

Played early last Sunday with my regular partner so no one in front of us and completed a round in 2hrs 50mins butit felt a little rushed and didn't really enjoy it.I like to enjoy my golf and usually as a two ball will take roughly 3hrs 15mins at a steady pace to finishing. Played lostwithiel today with a half six tee off and after being waved through by a three ball completed the round in 3hrs 10mins....
