We always see threads about how such actions should be dealt with, but would YOU be willing to be a Marshall for a day and go around keeping an eye on folk and giving warnings out where it was needed ?

Done it loads of times.
On one famous occasion I gave a 2 shot slow play penalty to a three ball that included The Captain and Secretary.

Most of the time nothing needs to be done. the mere knowledge that an active marshal is on the course is sufficient.

You tend find that the folk who complain the loudest about slow play are usually the biggest offenders.

You have to be careful and not jump in, for example a three ball who are two holes behind might have recently been waved through by some slow matches in front.

Never really had a problem. Visiting groups and keeping folk informed kept everybody 'cool'.

Wouldn't penalise folk - that's not part of the job imo.

But certainly agree about the loudest/worst!

If they want to do it they are the wrong sort.

On two really busy courses [100,000+ rounds a year] we had a team of four rangers for the summer season, they were worth their weight in gold.
A retired Warrant Officer was in charge and he was brilliant, he could shift folk with a raised eyebrow.
Sometimes it was a bit scary, especially the time when a rugby club on tour decided to play golf without shirts on a hot day.
'Sorry lads, but it is only the women we allow to play topless' was his classic ice breaker.

Last thing I want whilst enjoying a round is some numpty on a power trip running across the fairway to tell me to took my shirt in!

i was at an outing last saturday and we played 4 x 4 balls first tee off was 11am at 3 pm on the 16th hole we had a jobsworth telling us to hurry up, the course we played was HUGE 3 500+ holes on the back 9 2 on the front and the par 3's were over ponds it wasnt the easiest course by far so that got my back up a bit

........but was your block booking holding up the players behind?

4 hours for 15 holes is pretty slow.
