Hi Guys,
Not been on for a while but I need some advise. My dads seen the advert on TV for Slazenger FAST irons. I'm sure you've all seen the advert on Satanta. I have to admit that for £199.00 they look ok. However, I know that just because a 6 capper says they are good doesn't mean they'll be good for a 14 capper. My dad can't hit it long at all and has played with a fade for the last 30 years. He only hit's his drive about 175yds and he's hitting a 3W for 150yds. He thinks these clubs will cure his fade and also give him extra distance. Even though he can only hit it short, his short game is very very good. I'd read a few negative comments about the FAST clubs and I wanted to know if anyone had any experiance with them. Even though they are only £200.00, I don't want him throwing money away he hasn't got.

Any advise please Gents.

First and foremost fella, clubs will not cure a slice on their own, he must be coming across the ball. Local golf shops are doing far nicer iron sets for only a few quid more, if he has bother getting distance, callaway x16's etc would be his ideal type of clubs probably with graphite shafts to get the best out of his current swing.
Part of me says simply tell him to spend the 200 on lessons and he will improve his distance and become a better golfer for it.

But Kenny Dalglish (Spelling?) chipped one straight in the hole from the bunker??? And in one take!!!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'd avoid them, usually if a manufacturer dedicates an entire TV channel to selling a set of clubs its because they are too sh*te to sell themselfs!

Cheers Fella's. I'll let him know your comments.

it was a great shot of the bunker though. I can't see Jacklin turning up at a Pro Am with a set of FAST clubs

Nobody who advertises them actually plays with them what does that tell you?

If you want a hybrid style set there are plenty out there from proper manufacturers not QVC style comapnies.

Direct Golf do a decent John Letters set for £249

(Still a better than the Paul Casey shows us how little charisma the modern pro needs advert for Nike)

Long gone are the days when Slazenger were a company worth taking seriously for golf clubs.

The ones in question seem very superficial & fady.

A set full of hybrids, hmm. Well, there are plenty of decent quality irons & sets for not much more than the JJB special of £179 I noticed in an advert for these ones.

intherough, Sounds to me as if your dad could do with some irons with a nice deep cavity, the weight in the heads set low down. The hybrid solution can get MOI set low, but never really been one to be easily swayed by hybrid suposed technology. Something like a set of Ping G10 irons are the sort of thing to start looking at. Now although I'm not really a fan if offset heads, as I consider them simply as a sticking plaster over swing faults, but for someone not troubled by this, then by all means it could be a solution. But please don't be temped by Fast irons.

Thats it, You've all anwered my question. My dads can play to his fade so he's not bothered about lessons, plus he's been playing for 40 years so he's set in his ways. Thanks for the name of the other sets available. Any other names would be appreciated.

I don't think lessons are for everyone. Some people are happy to work things out for themselves.
