Hey all,
Won £160 for my 2nd in the club champs. And with this money i am going to buy a rangefinder of sort. In my pro shop they stock the skycaddie 2.5 and the nikon laser rangefinder. I was just wondering the pro's and cons of each and your opinion on which is best as i have no clue.
Thanks

Off your handicap you probably have a line of sight into most greens from the middle of the fairway but for those of us who prefer their golf "off road" and usually have most of the trees in Windsor Great Park to navigate a GPS at least gives you a reading from most parts of the course

Bushnell every time - no annual fee, no downloads, just point and shoot at whatever you want - especially good it you want to know the lay up yardage on a dog leg to a specific tree or something too...if a tree does get in the way just take three steps to the side and bingo!

Thanks guys. Also does anyone know the annual subscription to skycaddie and how much it costs to download courses? Thanks

Erm, you managed to get on t'internet to ask this question so why not try the sky caddie site and get the answer for yourself??

Yoof of today!

the annual fee for sky caddie is £35 and you can download upto 22,000 differant tracks from england and europe i had the chance to buy both also got the chance to try both and would recomend the sky caddie as sometimes with the bushnell you can miss the flag if the wind is directly behind you and can pick up something behind the green giving you a differant yardage

I Bought the skycaddie 2.5 a couple of weeks ago. Surpising how quickly you start depending on it. Seems to have Helped my game in the few rounds i have used it. The subscription is £30 a year and seems resonable considering what it offers

I have both a Skycaddie and a Bushnell (which I have had for about 3 years) and I like the Sky caddie for a quick reference when playing my own course and pretty well know the club to use - I really still like to go back to the Bushnell as there is no substitute for the exact yardage to the pin.

On away courses, especially where there are doglegs the Skycaddie comes into its own as there is so much more information.

Ultimately you pay your money you take your chance!

Hi

I have a Busnell 1600 Tournament and a Callaway U Pro.

Both have advantages and disadvantages.

The U Pro is excellent in Pro Mode, way better than a Skycaddie BUT the list of mapped courses isnt as good at the moment and like all GPS exact yardages to the pin arent easy. Laser is good as you dont need to worry if the course has been mapped and you get exact distances to the pin. Downside is yardages to hazards or if you cant see the pin aint good.

Buy both and you wont go wrong is my helpful consumer advice :)

I cant understand the whole rangefinder argument, people bang on about how far gps yardages are out. If the course has been professionally mapped like skycaddie make out then they cant be out by anymore than a yard or 2.

Hard to believe there is many players apart from scratch golfers and touring pros that it will make a difference whether it is 146yds to the pin or 148yds.
