Presumably to pay for their new football and golf contracts, Sky subs are going up by up to £3 a month, depending on the package!

Isn't that the normal yearly increase?

It (£3) was certainly the yearly increase when I had a subscription - many years ago.

Phone up & cancel your subscription, they'll phone you in the 30day cancelation period & offer you a better deal.

My Virgin bill is £133 for all you use broadband, home phone and TV (with extra box) Much cheaper than I was paying for Sky even after coming off the year deal as a welcome package

That's a lot of money.
I pay £58 for Sky Sports,Unlimited broadband,landline,but only 1 box.

Current Sky bill is £93 per month - full shebang and with 2 extra boxes. However the phone / broadband is another £40 with BT Infinity. I really need to shop around as both up for renewal next month.

Every time I consider this matter I am astounded that the Murdoch-controlled press whip up hysteria about dear old Auntie's (paltry by comparison) £145 for a year.

When your consider what they provide for the money I think that it's brilliant VFM

£77 a month for phone , broadband , Sky HD , extra box , sport and movies extra tenner for BT sport

£47.50 for full package and two extra boxes.
I do find these threads funny though. Successful corporation increases prices following investing heavily in programming...
Are we to see a thread every time diesel/petrol goes up or when Taylormade release yet another overpriced driver inside a year... oh wait.

Yes they are successful but they are increasing prices while offering less. If they'd waited until September to raise prices it would've coincided with the fact they were no longer going to be showing live Champions League football as that's going to BT Sport. So in effect you will be paying more to watch less live football. Or paying even more if you now have to add BT Sport to your package.

As a BT Infinity customer I have had BT Sports for free since its inception. So far I have watched a total of 0 programmes / games.

Proof perhaps, if it were needed, that the market is totally bloated and we suffer from sports coverage overload. Furthermore the day that BT asks me for a single penny for its sports service is the day that I will cancel my subscription.

Are they offering less? Can you provide detail. As far as I know, overall programing (including original content such as Fortitude) has increased year on year for the last 4 years. Sports coverage, has that reduced. If so what has gone other than CL which, frankly was never worth what was paid for the viewing returns.
Ultimately it was Ofcom that decreed that football rights had to be broken up. Sky would probably loved to have continued to monopolise the EPL coverage but then people moaned about that leading to the package rights distribution redefinement and todays situation.
No one can seriously blame Sky for the CL situation anyway, the rights were overpriced on the original deal, Sky offered to up that (not substantially) but like a scene from Hudson Hawk (Richard E Grant in the auction room) BT just blundered in with a nighon £1bn offer that Sky were never going to match (some £550m too rich for their blood - or so I'm told)

Football on Sky is not the be all or end all so the loss of one broadcast tournament that had surprisingly low viewing figures, compared to investment to cater to wider audiences does not really equate to this more for less broad brush statement.

Thats all I can say really, I do aologise for getting in the way of the regular Murdoch-corp bashing (despite BSkyB not being wholly owned and controlled by KRM...)

Now to bring it back on theme, Have at em lads....

If you look at my comment it was purely based on football coverage. Losing the rights to the CL means they are no longer showing as much football, even taking into account the Friday night games that are said to be included in the new PL package. In the group stages ITV show one live game a week and Sky were showing the rest either on one of the main channels or through the red button which was 7 live games on a Tuesday and 8 on a Wednesday for a total of 6 weeks. Losing these alone (without the knockout phase) means that just for the group stage they are showing 90 less games from the CL. Even with the Friday night live games they will be showing less live football while increasing their prices.

EDIT - Wasn't bashing or trying to bash Murdoch or Sky as they have raised the bar in terms of sports coverage which is what I mostly watch it for and I enjoy a lot of what they have done.

Same here. I think they tried to sneak in charging me to continue watching it in HD but I noticed it and said SD will do which you still currently get for free. I also think you have to commit to another 12 months with BT to continue getting it for free.

You do all realize that you are paying for the destruction of English Football and the pub trade? How? Well the money is mainly to pay for the clowns who ponce about in the premiership, and the money you would have in your pocket to go to the pub if you didn't pay such ridiculous sums to Sky,virgin and BT.

I pay.........£30 (Virgin) for BB unlimited and lightening fast, landline (that we no longer use apart from incoming that we have to have. That will soon go once they realize no one is bothering to anymore and they can stop paying BT to hire) and basic TV. The Beeb can clear off too. £145 for unwatchable drivel. The voice, dancing and other trash. We basically watch Ch4, E4 most of the time and DL films and programs. I can recommend (Nashville + Friday Night Lights). Honestly, you could save a fortune if you really wanted to. Just coz you have money does not mean you have to spend it. THINK !!!! TV or better holidays / golf clubs, membership and beer. That's where my money goes.
