Just asking as our club has had it in and out more times than a lady of the night. I would love them to put it back in as would a large number of members but we get told it's not cost effective due to SKY costs.

So has your club got Sky Sports and what are your thoughts on it in a Golf Club?

I would love it in my club. But having worked in the hospitality trade, I totally understand why places don't install it. Commercial sky packages are beyond extortionate.

Yep, it's far too costly for the number of people who would make use of it.

I certainly wouldn't be in favour of a higher sub just to have it in the clubhouse.

We have it. Would say it's imperative for good sports coverage, Football, results and obviously golf.

It's mostly watched via the TV lounge and we swally a lot more than the channels cost on a weekly basis.

We have it, but it tends to be very much in the background. Check the footie scores and then it's into the heated golf discussions ! Understand it costs a fortune, but must admit wouldn't miss it that much.

That's my point on my birthday alone last year I took 25 blokes over the road to a pub who had sky to watch the match. Spending on avrage £20+ per man. On a big match day you can see the bar empty around 1530 to go watch the super Sunday game ect.

It’s in both the club house and the pro’s shop, some members have been disqualify from the comp for teeing off late when watching the football in the pro’s shop.

We have it but it wouldn't matter to me if it's there or not. I dont go to the club to watch TV, no matter whats on.

6K per year? is that right? Bloody hell

I can tell you that it's probably more than 6k a year.

Plus there's not a fixed price. Sky base the cost on your revenue. Not sure how it's calculated for golf clubs, but for bars/pubs it's calculated on the money you've forecasted to take on food and drink and they use a percentage of that.

One of my clients is a well known chain and they're charged £150k per year per bar for Sky. And that's not a "full" subscription like you'd get at home. That's purely for sports.

Holy cow that's insane.

I guess it must make the profits otherwise they wouldn't pay it.

I know round here the pubs that have it are full on match day and the ones who don't are empty.

We have it at our place in the bar and pro shop. Doesn't bother me either way really. Sometimes I'd rather it's not on in case I overhear a result of something I was recording at home.

Ours is 350 per month, and recently at our EGM it was debated was it viable, after doing a 3 week takings check,it was found it was viable, not just because of the bar but also the fruit machine, even though its basically only for 15-20 people as its in a back bar.As someone said sky base it on a certain criteria,to me its a luxury but sometimes youve got to speculate to accumalate.

We have it and to be fair when there is game on it does keep members in the club. Same with the cricket and the golf. I don't know how much we pay per month.year but I'm guessing it is paying for itself.

our club has had sky sports on and off over the past 18 months. but hopefully its back for good now due to a member of the bar staff organising a pontoon style competition every month which brings in around £300 in income after payouts to supplement the price of sky.

Yes it's expensive but the role of the committee is to provide facilities for our members and we can easily afford it. I would say the extra bar revenue from just the Saturday lunchtime and tea time games makes a massive dent in the subscription we pay (~£200 p/mth)...... not to mention the endless golf that's on through the day !!

Overall, if we were to lose things like this we lose "atmosphere" in the club, less people will come in and before you know it we shut at 6 and make nothing on the bar at all. There are plenty of people that look at fees for what they can get out of it and see anything that's not golf oriented as excessive. Personally it's more about belonging to a club that I'd like to call in to see friends regularly even in only for a couple of pints.
