I see that Sky have totally revamped their viewing hardware offerings: http://www.sky.com/skyq/#showcase/silver.

Brought it up-to-date (long overdue) with wireless infrastructure, and more in-line with other streaming services. :).

I like that you can playout on your tablet now and even download for off-line playback. Support for UHD too, for those with a 4K/UHD TV (not me, at the moment). Ryder Cup and The Open in 4K??! :D:cool:

Out in early 2016 they say. No pricing though...won't be cheap I guess ;)

its all about how much... Like the idea of it and recording more than 2 channels is great. not bothered about 4k, the home internet stuff is nothing new, i do like the remote box for multiroom though that does away with having the satellite plugged in, and shares the content from the main box.

I think its not going to be cheap though!!

I like the features and options available. The ability to watch programmes recorded on the main box upstairs on a second TV or on my Ipad, or being able to download recorded programmes onto the Ipad to take on hols etc. When I phoned them about it a month back, as an existing customer, it was going to cost me an extra £1.50 a month, but there was a £150 installation charge (new LNB on dish, new cable(s) for the 5 feeds and two new boxes). I passed at the time - the extra monthly fee wasn't an issue, but the installation cost was a bit heavy, thought I'd wait a couple of months. Had an email from them yesterday, as a long time customer (over 13 years), they were offering me £99 OFF the installation. Cost now was £1.50 per month extra, and £50 installation fee. Signed up straight away, install due at the end of the month. Also found out that you don't buy the new kit, SKY loan it to you, therefore you don't need to worry about warranty and repairs, SKY will replace, repair as required at no cost - saves me a few extra quid as I can cancel the maintenance plan on my old kit too.

Sounds good. We are due to ring Sky shortly to get our usual reduction, why do we have to go through the same phone call every time? Anyway, if they offer us the same deal then I would go for it. It certainly looks a step up. Please let us know how you find it when it is fitted.

We're having it installed next Wednesday (12th).

We got £50.00 install and £1.50 onto our monthly bill.

The Sky+ HD box is such a nightmare when it comes to recordings clashing due to having twin tuners, looking forward to being able to record pretty much whatever without worrying about it

Considered it, but there is no (legal) way to get recordings off an older HD box and transfer to the Q, so no use to me. Kids have loads of stuff saved, and Sky can't really say that the boxes aren't for long term storage when they offer 2TB of storage.

Interesting, thanks. I also stopped when I saw the installation fee. Perhaps if they offer me £50 or less, then I might go for it. Would be interesting to see what you guys thinks of the tech when you've got it working.

Resurrecting this thread from April. I'm seriously thinking of ordering Sky Q, but wanted to know if anyone here has had it installed? If so, what is it like, especially if you have Silver box 2TB and the Mini play-out box. Did you get any discounts on installation and/or monthly subs?

Just had it installed a few weeks ago now
Great upgrade from old system
Far superior for recordings ( no more clashes/part record)

Box downstairs, mini box upstairs, free install, no monthly upcharge
Loyal customer that apparently had zero offers on my account, so seemed happy enough to give me what I wanted
Was at 1st offered 20% off my current/old package, but opted to keep price the same and get sky Q thrown in

Great . I'm in a similar boat, so interesting to see what they can do for me.

I am gobsmacked that they gave you this for free when they are advertising "Starting at £12 a month on top of your sky bill". Good skills, perhaps your paying a lot for the service?

I just got a 4k tv so it would be nice but Sky and I are generally not friendly. I take it cos its the best but horrible company.

To be honest, maybe I was already paying too much??
I've never changed package in years, she told me I was on an old deal, with no perks, immediately offered to reduce my bill by 20%, without me even asking.
Adding the £12 per month back on, for sky Q, has me now paying £1 less per month than I was with old box.
I'd already recieved a letter telling me as a loyal customer I could have free installation, so she couldn't try charging extra there, because without the free install I wouldn't have gone ahead.

The way I see it is, pay enough monthly, without paying for engineers or install fees, I refuse to pay for this throughout my entire time with sky.

Like yourself, I've no choice/options.
There's no virgin tv in my area, get very poor reception via normal tv aerial, due to large trees at the back of my house.
House backs onto a farm, and the long tree lined driveway to a mansion house/hall.

So without a satellite dish, our tv viewing would be very limited and poor indeed.

Just to add, deal is set for 18 months, but as stated above, no intention to leave, as no other options really for us

As a side note, after completing this deal, I then managed a good deal on phone landline and broadband with them too.
Was with EE, had no real gripes, but basically managed to get phone line and broadband for about £3 per month less than I was paying EE just for the home land line.
Also secured for 18 months.

Already seeing a slight improvement on home internet.
Engineer added a booster unit too, was really helpful.

The extra sky Q box in the bedroom is a big plus too.

Had Q for about 4 months now and it's good. Has a few teething issues but software is being developed for it (still have contacts that work for Sky).
Football is 4K is something else, as is the film content in UHD.
Recording system is good with 4 concurrent while watching a 5th.

Gripes are that it does disconnect from the mini boxes every now and again. If you are a miltiroom user then the biggest issue is that if the main box goes down then the mini boxes are out of commission too.
